Should Calzaghe ever be forgiven or excused for 2001-2006?

Mitchell took his home defence and then was forced to go Germany to fight Ottke. He lost. Calzaghe was never in the mix.

Reid turned down the Calzaghe fight when he was Champ, then took less money to fight Calzaghe after he lost it. Calzaghe's fault???

Brewer was signed to fight Ottke before Calzaghe had made his second defense. He lost.

Could and should have fought Beyer and Lucas.

Yeah Johnson was an animal at 168, Calzaghe would have had no chance in that fight in Wales. Get real, if they had fought those 3 times they would have all went to Calzaghe. But i would have still liked to see it happen.

Calzaghe and Warren brought in Frank Maloney to talk to Roy Jones before the Richie Woodhall fight to see if he would be intrested in the scrap, they invited him to the fight and he declined. Roy talked about this first meeting during the build up to there fight last year, and said his people (HBO) had no intresest becasue Calzaghe was a nobody. After Johnson Sparked Roy, the feelers were put out in the opposite direction and Calzaghe and his team said no, then the comments in the book etc..

Joppy was coming off a win over undefeated Howard Eastman and held the BS WBA belt but he was still a top 5 middleweight when they fought far from a bum.

Ottke is a fair point, that fight should have happened (more blame on Ottke's side from what I can work out - he once claimed not to know who Calzaghe was), but Johnson was just a journeyman at super middle. His record there was 4-6 until he moved up and got involved with the easier pickings at light heavy.

ottke wouldnt even consider crossing paths with jc unless it was in germany, i dont blame jc for not trying.

    bhop rejected a potential fight

    RJJ rejected a potential fight

johnson fight could have happened if jc hadnt have broke his hand

FFS lacy at least had the decency to fight JC

I don't know who he was supposed to fight at SMW. You could criticize him for not moving up to LHW, but at SMW he did what he could while there was a dearth of talent. He DID try to get a fight with Hopkins long ago.

Sven Ottke never wanted to fight. Who else is there?
