I have this feeling that Mayweather Sr. might do some harm to Hatton in terms of style match up for this fight. We all know they have only been together for a little while before Malignaggi, now we should see Sr's influence on Hatton full circle.

Sr. tries to promote defense above all. He is working with Ricky to work on his boxing skills. If Ricky isnt as aggressive as his past style as a result we might see more fighting in the center of the ring, which favors Pac's speed and footwork.

It will be interesting to see if a less aggressive Hatton comes out and works his "boxing skills". If we do see this we might see a Pac victory!

    Thoughts?

    You are not alone.

Myself and some of the other cats here like Realspitts have been saying this all along. Good post. We'll see, I think they can still get the job done, but their pairing may needlessly complicate things, most definately.

Then again, he might win the fight for him. This fight could go either way, but Hatton is at his best at 140, Pac? Not sure.

Sr said he wants to keep Hattons aggressiveness but make it so its more refined and no out of control. The reason why Mayweather was able to pepper Hatton with so many shots (if you watch the fight you can see Mayweather was setting Hatton up for that check hook the whole fight coming into the corner) was because he came in wild with his hands down. What Sr is trying to do is keep that same aggressiveness, I mean lets not kid ourselves Hatton will never be a boxer, add a little speed and technique and make it so he doesnt look like a bobble head doll coming in.

He will lose if he tries to 'outbox' Pacquiao. Hatton needs to lose the plot in order to win this fight. Best thing that can happen for him is to just get picked off for 2/3 rounds. For some reason he thinks he's gonna box to a win... NOT HAPPENING. After a few rounds if he realises this and starts to get on Pac, swarming him hit every little 'trick' of his ie, the holding pulling pushing etc etc then he has a better chance. Still doubt whether it will be enough though

Most likely Hatton will revert to type in the heat of battle anyway.

Hatton should swarm Pac, that's his best chance to win. I agree.

We should see fairly early in the fight. If hatton doesnt do his trademark light jab, left hook to the body and hold move, then hold/hit foul and rough up pacman in the first two rounds it should be fairly obvious that Sr. has actually transformed Hatton.

If Hatton is indeed transformed mentally then in this particular fight I think this style change favors Pac. All this said I favor hatton in this fight, but I am talkign about the Kosta Tszyu Hatton not Ricky Mayweather.

Against Malignaggi, Hatton tried to box yet looked kind of awkward and confused. He made his success and reputation on a mauling, brawling style. Against Pacquiao, that style will produce an interesting and fan friendly fight. Win or lose, Hatton will still have the fans if he gives them the fight they want to see.

Good post. However, if things aren't working for Fatton, he will revert to what he knows best. He definitely will not have forgotten what would be classed as "muscle memory". There may be some diminished aggression on Fatty's part, but only to ensure he doesn't take too many shots. That will be in his favour.

Pac is being very overrated. KT hit Hatton with some decent shots. Hatton fought Urango, a big punching 140 and Pac will not bring any more power than he has seen. Pac will be aggressive, it is his style. He will try to counter with power shots but he won't land everything, and that is because of what Floyd Snr is trying to teach Hatton. During these exchanges Hatton will land some shots and eventually, Pac will get KTFO.

    (literally just came across this):

"Everybody seems to think because I've been working with Floyd Mayweather, Sr. that I'm all of the sudden going to turn into a master boxer. And I don't think that's what I'm getting at. I think the old Ricky has to be ultimately the one that is going to win this fight but he's a lot more polished in other areas now." - Ricky Hatton, April 2009
