If you can't show a bit of national pride when two warriors from different countries step into the ring, when can you?
That said you don't have to be a complete *******, frochluddite or pavlicker about the whole thing. Cheer your guy, but try and call it as you see it, not as you want to see it. I don't always manage this it must be said.

Similar nationality or ethnicity to my own plays very little part in my becoming a fan of a particular fighter. For example, as a white British/European, my favourite fighers of all time are in fact...

    1. A Mexican-American.
    2. A British Arab of Yemini descent.
    3. A black Puerto Rican of African descent.
    4. A black Briton of Jamaican descent.
    5. An African American.

    Truly spoken!

I will almost always root for a compatriot against a fighter from another country.Of course there are exceptions.
However,I also like quite a lot of fighters who dont stem from my country.
By the way seldom do I watch a box fight without any passion at all.We human beings tend to take sides and root for one fighter in a fight against another fighter.
Fighter A seems to be a likeable guy.He stems from Ruanda.Fighter B stems from Uganda.I have no connections to either nations.I ve never seen these two fighters before.
Nevertheless,I will probably root for fighter A because he seems to be the more likeable human being.Normal, isnt it!!??

I think i have it the worst because im a tweener(inbetween)raised in the US on US Boxing and Boxers but now we have a influx of Euro's and i like some dont like others. My screen name seems to give off the impression that im a fan of anything that comes out of Europe which is totally not the case.

I have been accused of pumping up all these Polish fighters yet when i ask for an example no one can up with one. There are TONS of young Polish fighters with good records that i dont even talk about.I dont jump form thread to thread and claim that Polish fighters would this to this and that to that fighter.I take it 1 fight at a time.

Rabid support and blind nuthuggery are 2 different things.

just so you know, in mexico they didnt boo nate, they boo'd the score that had juan winning....

but you can't take nothing away from him, it was a pretty close fight...many forget that juan had a lot of early rounds in the bag....and nate completey imposed his will, but no way in hell did he whoooop juan diaz....

Freddie, it wasn't a blowout by any means,I wasn't trying to say he whooped him in terms of rounds won, but that he did some do some whooping on Juan during that fight. I'll take back the "whooped" bit, that was premature on my part. Diaz fought bravely and has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of for that loss, he took that loss like a man. That's the kind of loss I was talking about, where it is possible for a guy to lose but still impress, maybe even gain some new fans with how he fought bravely despite losing.

But it was a hard fought win and Nate most definitely deserved to be declared the winner after that performance. Hopefully I was wrong about the fan's reaction too, that seems to be a bit of a grey area. I will say the Mexican fans in San Antonio who were there to see Barrera beat Pacquiao back in 2003 reacted very respectfully to Manny after he won that fight. those were good fans who, despite seeing their hero lose, showed some respect to the guy that beat him.

the majority of mexican fans (especially in mexico) are so passionate about the sport, that they will even boo the son of chavez....i remember when the cards were read for the vanda fight (not that i thought chavez lost, but it was no blowout) and that one judge didnt even give vanda a round, the crowd went nuts....

the fights i have been to in mexico aint corrupt at all, and all they really wanna see is a good fight....when one of their fighters does bad and loses, they dont blame the judges, they blame the fighter.....

it doesn't mean people can't rise above it and be objective.

it's usually only people who try to live through their allegiances who join that sort of thing because they aren't willing to test themselves.

ever see a 40 year old football fan wearing a jersey with someone's name on the back who was half his age?

    that's what i'm talking about.

people can say what they want, but nationalistic pride is what makes boxing sizzle, dizzle and frizzle.....

why, cause at the end of the day, THEY FIGHT IN THE RING....all them other sports like soccer, football etc etc aint **** compared to boxing....
