Well Toney got floored by a middleweight in his prime flat on his back....so hes out of the question.


Its between Hagler and Lamotta. I prefer Lamotta, but you can make a case for Hagler too. Lamotta could not be knocked off his feet in his prime ,he just couldn't be, no matter who the puncher was.

 

I am in agreeance, Lamotta took alot of punishment and even the great Sugar Ray could not put him down and it's not like he was a Sweet Pea type (not saying he was course of cause).

 

Sugar Ray Robinson was a welterweight and Jake Lamotta was a middleweight/ super middleweight so him not knocking down Lamotta proves what? Tommy Hearns couldnt knock down Hagler. If Lamotta would of fought guys who could really bang at middleweight he would of been knocked down. I will say this again about Robinson, he was a coward who beat his wife and avoided fighting black guys so he could fight slow mob controlled Italians. Nothing special.

Name some fighters Jack Lamotta fought who were natural middlleweights who came into the fight with him with a 80 percent or higher ko percentage. I doubt you could name one. You can only give me names and say were good because you heard some so called boxing expert say there good. Julian Jackson would of cleaned his clock, So would Nigel Benn, Gerald McClellan, Roy Jones Jr, Kelly Pavlik ect ect ect

James Toney on the other hand moved up to heavyweight and still showed he could take a good punch so apparently he has the best chin.

You do know that Robinson fought every top ranked black fighter in his division?

Last time I checked Kid Gavilan, Henry Armstrong, Jackie Wilson, George Costner and Tommy Bell were black. They were all also rated inside the top 5 in the welterweight rankings at the time Robinson fought them.

As a middleweight though he was floored twice and took a beating from the great Dave Tiberi.

All of them had great chins however and I find it impossible to rate one above another. I guess I'll have to think about it.

Robinson was one of the hardest middleweight punchers of all time. he knocked out granite chin gene fullmer with ONE punch! Robinson weighed in the 150s for his last fight with Jake, hit lamotta with everything but the kitchen sink and jake never went down...and that was jake past his prime.

That in SIX meetings, the greatest middleweight puncher of all time could not floor lamotta once

Why dont u ask Gene Fullmer or Bobo Olsen if Robinson could bang at 160

How bout Lloyd Marshall at middleweight? knocked out your boy Ezzard Charles. Marshall is one of the greatest punchers at 160 EVER, he did not knock lamota down

Irish Bob Murphy one of the hardest LIGHTHEAVYWEIGHT punchers of the whole decade 56 kos out of 65 wins, was unable to floor a over the hill lamotta in two meetings

Bob Satterfield one of the hardest punchers in HISTORY landed everything he had on lamotta, and lamotta did not go down. Satterfield hit harder than any middleweight EVER

Marcel Cerdan, one of the best punchers of the era, and middleweight champion was unable to floor jake lamotta

Holman Williams could smack too, lamotta took his best stuff

Danny Nardico, the hardest hitting 175lber of the era, teed of on a way over the hill jake lamotta all night and jake took flush shot after shot. FINALLY nardico managed to floor him, but watch some of the punishment a shot jake took in this fight vs a very powerful prime light-heavyweight.

Going by your defintion I would say Billy Fox 96% knockout percentage, He laid everything into Lamotta and was unable to floor him...In fact Lamotta who purposely took a dive in this fight was laughing at Fox as he teed off on him unable to hurt him. Lamotta just let Fox hit him at will and fox could not put the bleeding lamotta down.

But let me say this....Lamotta fought HUGE punchers at both middleweight and light-heavyweight like Lloyd Marshall, Sugar Ray Robinson 6x, Marcel Cerdan, Irish Bob Murphy 2x, Bob Satterfield, Bob Satterfield and NONE of these men were able to floor him. I mean these men were seriosely the biggest punchers of the era and none could put a dent to Jake's chin.

 

Toney was floored twice by middleweights. Was Lamotta ever knocked down by a middleweight? hell lamotta took punches off the 3 biggest lightheavyweight punchers of his era Murphy, Satterfield, Nardico

 

So what the hell color were Henry Armstrong, Kid Gavilan, Tommy Bell, Jackie Wilson, George Costner, Randy Turpin, etc., etc.?? atsch

 

I think it's pretty close between Lamotta and Haglar. Haglar didn't have his chin tested as often so I don't know.
