all I ever hear of Yank wankers is that Duddy is a hype job - yet I have never heard anyone hyping him. when you ask them who was hyping him and when those individuals go MIA. Most Irish fans knew his limitations - granted I didnt think he would lose last night - but did anyone? It's not the end of Duddy but lets hope some on here can now get off his back. Being popular doesnt equate to being hyped. He was popular because of his personality and attitude not because of hype - there is a difference if you can understand it! :good
It wasnt that Duddy wasnt that good its because Loew is that much good of a trainer If Loew would of trained Margarito against Mosely, we would of had a more different outcome.
Yeah but as I andthe OP have said, most Irish fans who know the game were well aware of his limitations.
A number of people mentioned him regularly as a candidate to face Pavlik. I'm not sure whether that equates to hyping of Duddy or a comment on the utter paucity of talent currently in the middleweight division. Both probably.
The problem with your comments is that prior to the Smichet fight a good 30-35% of ESB posters would have picked Duddy to knock Pavlik out. Many posters DID pick John to beat Kelly in a variety of polls we had. John is an entetaining fighter, and seems like a very affable kid, but he was hyped to the moon back in late '07 through early '08.
The media mentioned it because Arum mentioned it over and over and it is Arum's opinion that counts greatly. But even Arum said that it wasn't a boxing fan's fight, but rather a money making fight that would sell. Perusing boxing forums over the last few years, the correct answer is no, Duddy never had a great many believers.
Well anytime the 0 goes the hype threads come, but yeah, it isn't limited to any one race to say the least.
Nobody hyped him but a few crazy fans. The way his face was like a magnet for right hands against Smichet made me laugh out loud at his display of skills. He's a good bloke, but c'mon.. nobody ever really thought he would go beat up Pavlik or Abraham.
Really? Can you link me to those polls? I find it hard to believe that 30% of ESB posters would have picked Duddy to KO Pavlik at any time after Oct of 05. "Hyped to the moon?" Where are these posters and where are these posts? Unless you want to consider the favoritism in his decisions hype as well. Campas could have been a draw but was a wide UD. You could say there was promotion and media around him to a degree but who believed it after the life and death Campas fight?
The Campas fight showed his level, clearly. Duddy has a ton of heart and can be exciting to watch at times but the wave started to recede the night Campas effectively drew him, and definitely hurt him.
which "crazy fans" - I've never seen his fans hype him - they've always seemed knowledgeable and objective to me - the Duddy hate is illogical and without foundation!
