Translation, I agree with the refs. decision tonight. Good call. And this is comin' from one that normally bitches about fights gettin' stopped. JT had just been knocked down and he wasn't countering off the ropes. Again, good call considering my thread title. I give mad props to Carl Froch for his resiliency and champonship caliber finish. That was some damn good heart there. Nice :good
You nailed it.Excellent post.Respect to Froch and the ref.And respect to Taylor for getting up.I didn't think he had it in him.
Thanks, Guys. I was afraid this thread got lost in the shuffle. Again, I think this says alot comin' from someone like me. I like the call. God, what a battle! It was a great night for boxing.
if they didnt stop it i wouldve been more upset than i am after seeing jermaine let another boxer off the hook and not being able to finish.
this stoppage was good, and so was 'Taylor/Chavez' all those years ago. "My main concern is for the safety of the fighter. Fourteen seconds or one second left makes no difference to me," [Ortega] said. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/columns/story?columnist=rafael_dan&id=4101410 echoing Richard Steele's comments from back in the day.
Bear in mind that the ref doesnt really know exactly how long there is to go. He'll have an idea sure, but he cant be sure. In any case 14 seconds is plenty of time for a guy in Taylor's state to get seriously hurt. 100% legit stoppage.
I agree. If only one were to calculate one punch every 2 seconds, that's still 7 unanswered punches we would've probably seen.
