"CLOTTEY IS NOT A PRESSURE FIGHTER" "CLOTTEY WILL BE STOPPED BY BODY SHOTS" "COTTO WILL OUTBOX CLOTTEY EASILY" ======================================== Cotto fans have been touting "Bodyshots will kill Clottey with his high guard!" Clottey has massive forearms and biceps. He TUCKS those massive arms in tight against his body. There is about 3-5 inches between his elbow and belt of his trunks directly in front of his opponent. It is not a big exposed area for a clean shot. There is a target but it is very small. What IS exposed and what Cotto can TRY is to land BEHIND his arms, sort of the kidney area. Clottey keeps his elbows tucked but they are still in FRONT. Cotto can lean in plant his front foot way past Clotteys and rip a shot or two to the body and try finishing to the head. Whats the flipside to this? Counterpunching. To land shots big body shots cleanly, Cotto has to lean way in past Clotteys guard, and : 1) lower his head, 2 ) drop his lead hand to land that left hook behind clotteys tucked elbow. What's the problem with that ? Body punching is more telegraphed then head punching, and counter-punchers punish opponents that go to the body. What plays right into the hands of a good counterpuncher? 1) Telegraphed shots 2) Leaky defense Body shots are much more predictable then head shots. Cotto's chin will be literally right there in front of Clottey to get two, three even four punches on it clean before he gets out of range / ducks. Even if you want to give the speed advantage to Cotto (which I say its even, Clottey did not look slow by any means against the speedster Judah) The punishment he will take for landing these bodyshots will deter him from attempting this repeatedly. So if Cotto makes this a big part of his gameplan, it will play right into one of CLOTTEYs biggest strength, clean accurate and fast counterpunching. Now.... the other thing you hear is that "Clottey is not a pressure fighter !" He does not throw nearly as much as Margarito, but mark my words he will land more punches each round. Want me to type that again? Clottey will not throw as many punches as Margarito did against Cotto, but Clottey will land more punches each round then MArgo did. :huh:huh:huh:huh:huh:huh:huh:huh:huh:huh "But how is this possible??" Clottey punches are probably the most accurate of anyone in the whole division. If anyone is as accurate its Cotto. But coupled with Clotteys style, defense and speed he doesn't need to throw as many punches to land! Again we know Cotto can be hit. He has a solid D but it is hardly impenetrable. Clottey will be walking Cotto down each round, throwing less punches, but more accurate and clean punches then Margarito did. Cotto will have no breathing space in this fight. Cotto is a great boxer/puncher. HOWEVER he does have holes in his defense and is able to be hit as he is time and time again in his fights against good opponents who wobble him. Do people really think that one of the cleanest, crispest punchers in the division in Clottey is going to have a hard time finding a target through Cotto's proven defensive liabilities? Lastly, if Cotto trys to box, stick and move on the outside, it will be his undoing Clottey will walk him down with the high guard, absorb his blows on his hands and arms, and land his own uppercuts, hooks and straight rights, with Cotto's back stuck against the ropes absorbing these blows. It will be one-sided. Clottey is a bad style matchup for most, and Cotto definitely fits the billing. Clottey TKO 11 Cotto.
I admire people backing thier fighter. But when you can't address the post about why Clottey will win, then your basically conceding that he will win.
I dont have to argue how Cotto is going to win the figth, just wait to june 13 and you will see that you lost your time backing up Clottey to win.:rofl
You got any idea how its gonna happen? Or you think belief and confidence will bash Clotteys head in?
What exactly does Clottey do better than Cotto?? Cotto is superior in everything apart from defence...
Its not anyone thing. Of course his defense, plus the fact that he applys pressure and will give no breathing room similar to Margarito so that Cotto will be on his back foot all fight again. Nothing Cotto can do can stop Clottey in his tracks, but Clottey can exploit Cotto's defense liabilities. Style baby style. For example, I think Cotto would be the favorite over Paul Williams. I think Clottey should be the favorite over Cotto. But I think Paul Williams should be the favorite over Clottey.
You lost me at the part where you said Clottey will land more punches per round then Margarito did...You don't even believe that do you?
