I am a big fan of Green. He had a very good performance last night against a solid fighter in De Leon, but he is not in the class of Bute who is a very good boxer. This is going to be an evenly contested match IMO.
Report out of Montreal mentioned the fight would be at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City and not in Montreal. But I guess nothing is set in stone. Green is a good opponent to help Bute improve his profile in the USA. The more fights on US television he can get the better. We can assume his rematch with Andrade will be on Showtime as well. Then his name should be big enough to attract the big money for the unification bouts with Froch or Kessler next year.
Easy defense for Lucian, but I have to give Green credit. Bute was ringside, and Green flat called him out, by name, and on the spot.
Interesting. It had sounded as though an Andrade rematch was going to happen next. I'm a bit surprised as the Andrade fight would do a very good gate in Montreal (granted most Bute fights would at this point). I suppose it just gives Interbox very good leverage from which to bargain.
Man, let the odds be good for this fight. I've refrained from betting for the last couple years, but I might have to make an exception because I think Bute's going to school him. Green's improving, but I'm not sold at all when the topic is Allan Green vs a top southpaw. He struggled with Emmett Linton (damn lucky to get the wide scores he did) and it took him 7 to stop an ancient Carl Daniels. That's the only southpaws he's fought. Bute will shred him.
Don't forget, Andrade's been fighting in Montreal recently and is building up a nice fanbase for himself. I think the plan is to let them both continue to win another fight or two each to build up the rematch into a big event.
Green can really crack so he'll have a punchers chance. And I think people aren't giving him much credit for his ability. The few times I've seen him he looked to be a very poised fighter with a solid jab.
To say Green struggled against Linton is a bit of an understatement there Rocko! More like Emmet boxed his ears off and got robbed in Green's home town. That's tellin' it like it was.
Andrade said he doesn't want the fight right away. He wants to take time to heal an elbow injury and possibly take a tune up before rematching Bute.
Green definitely has power and ability. What he lacks is good opposition so far in his career. He failed his first and only test when he fought Miranda. But he definitely has a puncher chance in this fight. Plus he is technically more skilled then most of the guys Bute has fought. Even tho I believe he would probably love to Andrade and Bika.
Will Froch be ready to fight in June or July? I doubt it. Plus it takes months to negotiate a big unification bout like that. It won't happen until 2010 IMO.
