But Peter Manfredo Jr had? :huh What about all the other bums and nobodies on Calzaghe's record, did they have a right to fight Joe? If so, then tell me why Froch doesn't.....:think Look, if Calzaghe had fought the level of opposition that say, someone like De La Hoya, had fought, then I wouldn't have a problem with someone saying that "Froch has no right to be in the same ring as Joe", but we all that isn't the reality of this situation.
The term 'Eurobum' is for ignorant ****wits only. However Froch is far more experienced now than he was a year ago. A victory over Froch means somthing nowadays, although if Calzaghe got that win there would always be someone trying to discredit it.
Exactly. He had no names on his resume before Pascal, and I know he would've been seen as a Euro bum by fans.
Of course it would be discredited, even now. remember, despite losing, Froch has been exposed by Taylor and, failing that, he got exposed by Pascal. Even in winning, a UK fighter loses sometimes. The yanks always seem to try and take credit.
No it's not. However, "Froch had done nothing to earn the right to be in the same ring as Joe until after Calzaghe retired from the sport" is the reality. I take your point that he has fought worse fighters, however, you could apply that logic to just about world champion being called out by a top ten contender. IMHO to earn the right to call out the champ, you have to make yourself stand out from the crowd and until the end of last year (i.e. after Calzaghe's final fight), Froch simply hadn't done that! Still, I'm sure that he is even now taking over Chad Dawson's position as "the guy Calzaghe retired to avoid" on the General Forum! Anyway, point is Calzaghe's retired and rather than trying to drag a 37-year-old who has lost interest in the sport back into the ring, Carl should be looking at the options that are available to him. A Taylor rematch in Nottingham would now be huge, or bearing in mind his willingness to travel, there's Kessler, Bute, Balszay, even some decent contenders like Bika (wouldn't be top of my list admittedly, he makes everyone look bad), Miranda, Andrade etc...
Agreed, but who gives a toss. Fact is, 90% of the general forum are ignorant fcukwits who don't know boxing exists outside of their own country. Luckily, those of us here are more educated!
I think most assume Calzaghe beats Froch. But it's only been a couple months since Joe went off into the sunset. The fight could still be made. Some of these posts suggest like Cal retired years ago & is in a wheelchair waiting for the glory to take him home. A sad truth but had Froch not came and beat Taylor most people will still be calling Carl a good "Euro fighter", But prop's to Froch for having the stones to come out here and prove otherwise. (If only he could rub off on Kessler)
If only he could rub off on Kessler) Dont think he needs to rub off on Kessler....Have you seen his bird
I agree, it's an era thing. I think there are many more feasible options open for Froch to make noise about rather than calling out Joe. Personally, it doesn't sit comfortably with me when boxers try to coax others out of retirement. My stance on it is when a boxer retires you respect that decision. I know others may not agree with that view but my opinion of Froch dipped slightly when he brought up Joe. Don't get me wrong however, I like Froch and it was nice to see such sportsmanship between him and Taylor immediately after the fight.
I think Carl does know it. He knows with his style his run at world level will be short and the fact is getting Calzaghe in the ring, even if he loses and never fights again would earn him more than the rest of his career combined.
