Ali also used to do things like chopping wood, hitting tires with a sledgehammer and running with heavy boots on. Pretty classical boxing training I'd say.

He took a page out of the book of the old timers and hit a boxing bag with his bare fists until the skin cracked, then pulled off the old skin to let new, tougher skin replace it.

I suppose the most stand out of Ali's "exercises" was to let his sparring partners pound away at his body to harden it.

This is what I know of his training regime, but new information is always welcome.

Do anyone know if contempories like Liston, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Patterson etc differed in their training regimes?

Ps. Ali did lift weights before Manilla. This was when he'd brought Sadler into his corner.

    Thats pretty silly in reality.

I used to do that and punch walls. Yea your knuckles callous etc. but what ends up happening is you cause a bone bruise under the skin which takes upwards of 3-6 months to heal. Not a critical injury, but beyond annoying. Its painful.. but your still fine to train but everytime you hit the bag or pads or whatever you just make it take longer to heal

The bone bruise ain't worth it. I got that **** from punching the walls at work before I started training and it took nearly a year for that to go away. It'd seem like it was healed and after two punches it'd hurt again.

Good to know the training regime of the greatest, thanks for that.

I wonder if his training was different in the 60s compared to the 70s because he was obviously more capable physically in the 60s, hard to imagine Ali had the same training routine from about 64-76.

It feels like strength exercises like push-up and sit-ups are missing here, because I knew he did them.

I could not find anything about Muhammed Ali doing weights or push-ups. I got the routine from a book called "workouts from boxing's greatest champs" by Gary Todd.

But Ali lifting weights later in his career is a interesting thing.

It was probably only before the last Frazier fight. He states in his autobiography that he had lifted weights before The Manilla fight and therefore was a bit more stationary. I suppose they figured that the best option was to try and knock Frazier out, and opted to go for power instead of speed.

I got some information about Klitschko daily routine from CHEFF and this is what I made of it.

I would like to know what Klitschko's gym work looks like.

    Klitschko daily routine

Getting up in the morning 7:30 AM

    8:00 AM – 9:30 AM work-out

Klitschko does not run, instead he does swim for 45 minutes in the morning

    Breakfast 9:30 AM

Oatmeal with berries, or egg white omelettes

    Dinner 12:30 PM

Soup, salad, grilled meat, chicken, or fish

    Snack 3:00 PM

    Fruits and nuts

Training at the gym 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM

    Weight training:

    3 sets 15 reps
    Or
3 sets 5 reps with maximum weight he can lift

    Snack 6:45 PM

    Watermelon, bananas, other fruits

    Dinner 8:00 PM

Grilled meat, chicken, or fish with rice, pasta, or potatoes

As dessert Klitschko eats chocolate cake or cheese cake because he needs the calories.

    Evening walk 11:30 PM

Evening walk for 20 minutes, to let the body get used to staying up late for fight night.
