My apologies if this has been discussed before. If so, someone kindly point me to that thread.

You could make a case Harold Johnson deserves it over Loughran. He beat better heavyweights Ezzard Charles, Nino Valdez, Archie Moore, Clarence Henry, Eddie Machen, Bob Satterfield. He had equal the jab Loughran had(I think slightly a bit more polished)....but he blows loughran away in the other areas.

Also did you accidently forget Joe Jeanette or do you consider Mcvea better?

I think McVea rates slightly higher.

I probably missed a few people though.

Holmes and wlad are the obvious choices.

Dempsey never fought the top coloured champions nor contenders so his title wasn't exactly undisputed.

Then guys like spoon, tua, wills and some others.

    10: Lennox Lewis
    9: James Jeffries
    8: Jack Dempsey
    7: Rocky Marciano
    6: Evander Holyfield
    5: Larry Holmes
    4: Jack Johnson
    3: George Foreman
    2: Joe Louis
    1: Muhammad Ali

But seriously, there has not been an Undisputed Heavyweight champion, not least because the moment anyone challenges him, he is 'disputing' his claim...

So I think the thread starter meant 'generally recognized as' Heavyweight Champion, thus the last time I did such a list (2006):

    1: Wills
    2: Langford
    3: Norton
    4: Jackson
    5: Vitali
    6: Jeanette
    7: McVey
    8: Witherspoon
    9: Quarry
    10: Bivens

I've always looked upon Holmes as an undisputed champion, funnily enough. In spite of only being recognised by one commision at a time.

No I think it's the one thing that can be held against him personally.
