Super middleweight is just stacked with good fighters right now. How much fun would an eight man tourney be with guys like Bika, Andrade, Taylor, Green, Ward, Dirrell, Froch, and Pascal? You could even throw in a couple of "play-in" rounds with fights like Codrington - Deleon Jr., Miranda - Berrio, Manfredo - Zuniga... Not that it will ever happen, but damn. 168 is insane.
Totally agree. Green, Ward and Dirrell are the future of the division. Say good bye to Froch, Bute and J. Taylor (unless he fights only 10 rounders).
you forgot Kessler .. 168 is great Bute, Kessler, Froch, Taylor, Andrade, Bika and i think Abraham, Pavlik and maybe Paul Williams will go up to 168 in the future too.
I wouldn't forget Kessler, I was really just throwing out everyone minus him and Bute. I figure a "tourney" winner would have earned a shot at one of them and then some.
I think 140 is better at the moment. Hard to believe considering twelve months ago it was barren. JMW seems to have slipped again now that P-Dub will apparently chase fights at 160 or 168 and Kirkland has been arrested. LW still has some intriguing matchups, but for me, Stawweight, Light-Welter and Super-Middle have the best POTENTIAL matchups. Whether they come off or not (unlikely at Minimumweight) is another matter. One thing's for sure, Froch and Andrade WANT all the big names! They have no fear. But I'd like to see them fight each other, I've said it twice today already, but for my money the most fan-friendly fight that can be made P4P today, Froch vs. Andrade-BRING IT ON!!!!
Bet Calzaghe is glad he is out of it! Wouldnt have his "0" if he had to fight at 168 over the next 2-3 years.
You're right man, 140's come a long way in a hurry- the only reason I'd put 168 above it is because I don't think the top guys at 140 have much time left there, and I still think 168's a bit deeper. 168, you've got everything- champions who will probably stick around in the division for the foreseeable future, very solid contenders and prospects, a great variety of skillsets, and best of all for the fans, great fights are being made. That's not even considering the prospect of even more talent going there between Abraham moving up and Dawson potentially moving down.
168 is an overrated division. There a number of solid fighters there. However, there are no spectacular fighters. There isn't one megafight that can be made in that division at the this time. I guess the good thing about the division is that they're all more likely to fight eachother being that they're all fighting for recognition.
Agreed. 147 is still far superior in terms of star power and top end talent. But in a P4P sense, I think #5-#15 at 168 absolutely crushes #5-#15 at 147. That's what will make this division all kinds of fun for the next two to three years.
