Most American fans call Calzaghe a slapper because they only saw his last few fights (where his hands were badly damaged). In his prime, Calzaghe hit hard and scored lots of knockdowns. Watch Calzaghe at his best when he outclassed Chris Eubank, putting him on the canvas in rounds 1 and 10. No slaps in that fight, just a windmill of power.
by the age of 31 how many defences did he have how many fights how long was he a belt holder Froch was forced to take the fight because he's running out of time, (to make money/legacy) he's 31/32 and isn't even a household name in his own kitcken (before taylor) with only a few more fights then 21 years old amir khan you think if he was in his mid 20s he would take taylor as his first defence? no chance
atsch Calzaghe "lacks basic skills" I'm no Calzaghe fan, but you clearly know NOTHING about boxing.
Froch might be able to put down JC early ala b-hop and Jones, but Joe gets up and school Froch into the next century! 120-108 x 3
Taylor was Froch's MANDATORY. His only choices were fight JT, or vacate and go back to fighting no-hopers for small money in small venues. Why do people keep forgetting that?
Welsh dragon my ass.. That name doesn't even fit Calzaghe. There's nothing that he does that makes me believe that he's a DRAGON.. lol
I was kidding about the 65 but it's about the mileage on the body rather than the age itself.. IF i remember correct, Eubank was semi retired at the time.
It'll be a huge domestic fight, a huge world fight. It would fill out a stadium, it'll be a huge payday, and according to Team Calzaghe an easy win against a prime fighter, a win his resume and legacy still needs to an extent. So why wouldn't he take it? Because he saw what Froch did in the last round and there's always doubt. I'm not suggesting for one moment Froch should be a favourite against Calzaghe, who should box rings around him. But you can NEVER right off a fighter like that, never. He punches hard for 12 rounds, he can keep coming forward, and he WILL be there for the full 12, always, and still punching hard.
Agree to some extent. It is quite funny reading Enzo talk about somebody being amateurish considering his son's basic style and tendencies. At the "elite" level, I haven't seen much uglier than Joe Calzaghe.
