You might be right. I didn't realise the Ring had him at 8. Perhaps I was being a bit harsh - possibly top 5 then. The interesting thing will be if Hatton wins in a close fight, will he be ranked higher than Pac P4P? Obviously, he will at 140, but P4P will take some working out/arguing! LOL.

 

Who would be the 4-5 fighters you rate ahead of Hatton if he wins?

 

Think like this: if then-P4P-er Cotto was to beat PBF in dramatic fashion, like a knockout after dominating the fight, he would've taken over the top spot, since a HUGE win over the current KING for a current P4P-er fighter is the exact way to get that spot. Now if Hatton, a P4P-er himself in the past few years, can beat PacMan by brutal knockout (he has like 15% chance to do that), he'll not only outshine Hopkins (close/debated L to Calzaghe, shutout W over Pavlik), but will outdo JMM as well, since the classy Mexican only managed to do a close/debated loss to the guy Ricky is about to knock out.

If Hopkins became the king by beating non#1 P4P-er Tito, why wouldn't Hatton take over vs, King Manny? It's just not a title to win from PacMan. He has to look absolutely awesome vs. the P4P king, and no doubts he'll deserve if he'll manage upset the king in hugely impressive fashion.

That's what P4P is all about, to look the best vs. the best, and P4P-er Hatton, the big underdog is about to TRY to pull it off.

 

Pac (dispite the implied loss), JMM, Hopkins gets Hatton to number 4 at least.

Ricky Hatton's only loss is to Mayweather who was a higher rated p4p #1 than Manny Pacquiao is now. The only thing I can see going aginst him is that he is basicly a one division (140) boxer.
I have no problem with Pacquiao more solidly establishing his slim lead over Juan Manuel Marquez with a win over Hatton and I have no problem placing Hatton at #1 with a win over Pacquiao.
If the proposed Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr happens I will conseder the winer of that match up #1. Till then it will eather be the Pac Man or The Hitman at #1.

Fair enough. Depending on how (and certainly if) Hatton pulls it off I would have him at #3, behind JMM and Hopkins. But you can make an argument for Hatton over JMM as he had two tries and could not beat Pac. You can also make an argument for Ricky over Hopkins based on the fact that Hopkins last two wins were over two middleweights (Pavlik and Wright).

So, it is not the worst thing in the world for Ricky to say he will be #1 p4p if he wins. Look at how Ali promoted himself as "the greatest" even at the start of his career.

To the guy that said Maxim 'didn't become P4P no.1' I'm pretty certain there weren't actual P4P lists back then.....just the general feeling of who was the best. Even if there was, Maxim was not regarded amongst the World's best at the time of the fight, nor did one loss matter to a figters career back then.

 

I seriously doubt it. Mosley came from the mid teens in the P4P rankings to #5 just for beating Margarito who was ranked at #6 or thereabouts at the time. Ricky Hatton is currently, already, at #8.

 

in all fairness beating the #5ish P4P guy doesn't usually propel you to #1 P4P, I have Hatton ahead of Pacquiao in the P4P rankings as it is.

Nopes . . . definitely not . . . but he should be well within the top 5 of the P4P list.

If he beats Pacquiao . . . fighting JMM next and beating him should assure him of the no 1 spot.

 

if ruiz had knocked out p4p champ roy jones inside say 4 rounds in 2003 instead of how it turned out...would ruiz then have become p4p champ or would jones have held on to that considering he was moving up so much in weight..
i see that as something simlar to pacquaio moving up 7 weight divisions from his first world title..
