listening to 5live as it happened, and the commentators made me think froch was getting badly beat for 11 rounds...they made it sound extremely one sided.. but, watching it on itv last night, froch didnt do THAT bad, he was being outclassed, but not manhandled like 5live had me thinking... when froch decked taylor 5live "and froch comes back...now taylor with an overhand right...they're toe to toe...oh, and he's down.." i was shouting "who??..who the fook is down?"...a few seconds later..."taylor is down"...as if it was tv commentary... didnt think mcguigan was great on itv with his commentary...but i suppose i am comparing him to his days as a screensports commentator back in early 90's, when he was actually very good at it.
itv coverage was a farce, in the 1st hr of it they had 4 sets of ad's 4 sets!? thats not even meant to happen for tv shows any non boxing fan would be excused for gettin fed up and turning off
ITV's coverage started bad and was awful throughout. Having avoided the result all day I knew Froch had won when the announcer said before hand "And it's well worth watching." Why the **** do they do that? Then they had a break just after Froch entered the ring before Jimmy Lennon Jr made the announcments and proceeded to have 5 minute breaks after every 3rd round... I'm glad I got to see the fight but if they're going to buy it at least give it the coverage it deserves.
the coverage on ITV1 was better, there was no introductions, just went straight into the fight, and the entire show was finished within an hour (including an interview with Froch after the fight). Coverage on Showtime was better IMO.
I left the room when Rosenthal started blabbering at the start and I was saying to myself "he'll say something stupid that'll drop a clue on what the result is", he always seems to do it. He'll say something like what you mntioned or his whole body language will tell you the guy got beat. Glad I missed that, as for the commentary, wasn't really impressed. I watched the Showtime version after it (in widescreen too) and their commentary was miles better.
I thought that. certainly towards the end as Froch was trying to close it out Rawlings and McGuigan seemed a bit staged and "calm" when they should have been going bloody bonkers. When Froch got dropped though that sounded genuine.
Duke Mackenzie gave Froch more rounds on Five Live than Barry McGuigan did for ITV. I watched a stream whilst listening to the fight, and I thought the commentary was good. The point the radio got across was that Froch was being beaten, and he was.
I didn't listen to Five Live but I always suspect that Mike Costello is a tad negative towards British guys.
The last round commentary is now on the BBC website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/8020426.stm
Definately five live especially in the last round. I mean it seemed that the itv commentry was watching it in a studio in the UK as John Rawling on the saurday was in belfast.
Did anyone notice McGuigan had Froch down by about 7 points after round 8 and 2 rounds later he was only 2 rounds down. McGuigan was extremely negative towards Froch
