Its the same recycled names over and over-Soliman,Green,Shannon and Mundine. The only bright spot is Michael Katsisdas-everyone else sucks or won't fight anyone.
I remember a time when you had Jeff Fenech tearing through opponents and Jeff Harding and Kostya Tsyzu.I feel sorry for the boxing fans in Australia.

But i agree the local scene is not that great. Darchinyan, Katsidis and Sakio Bika are our hopes on the world stage right now. While guys like Green & Mundine continue to parade around earning every last penny they can get while taking as little risk as possible.

    As i said mate:

    Darchinyan
    Katsidis
    Bika

All 3 are performing on the world stage and are doing reasonably well.

Obviously Vic is killing it, KOing guys left right and centre and is in most peoples Top 10 P4P.

Katsidis wins some and loses some but always fights good fighters and is always entertaining.

Bika is pretty inactive but is entertaining to watch and has a big fight coming up soon (either V Froch or Taylor according to someone on this board).

Unfortunately none of those 3 fighters have big followings over here and they are not widely known or watched at all which is a shame. Fights known over hear basically consist of Danny Green, Anthony Mundine and to an extent Sam Soliman.

And coming from those 3 is well... not much. Mundine after fighting bums for the past 2 years is taking a semi step up in Geale, which he say will then turn into unification's V Sturm and Pavlik. If they do thats beautiful but as most people expect he will either sit on the IBO title at MW as he did at SMW and defend against no bodys or he will run up to LHW to rematch Danny Green in meaningless fight to get some dollars.

Danny will continue to screw the Aussie public by fighting bums (people hate Mundine and love Danny but you know what? Danny Green is just as bad!!!) and calling out for Mundine before and after every fight.

Our best hopes right now are the 3 i mentioned above and some up and comers but IMHO they are nothing to get excited about. Some people on here will disagree but i see nothing special in guys like William Kickett, Lenny Zappa and Billy Dib. They will beat up on bums, step it up every once in a while and more often then not get beat.

I know it's not great and there is definitely room for many more, but if you think about our population, the country's general lack of interest in the sport and the lack of public, governmental, media, grass roots and financial support it gets I would say we are damned lucky to have had at least 2 P4P fighters in the last ten years (Vic and Tszyu) - I say atleast because i'm fking tired and can't think for the life of me if there have been others as recently?

There is a massive market for boxing in Australia - it's just completely untapped. So many people here love it - they just have to search it out - it's not just there like footy etc. Big big shame.

Yep. Im telling you all its going to take is for Ch 7, 9 or 10(didnt we come ever so close!) to tap into the sport (even SBS or ABC) and it will go off. Guys like Katsidis would have such a huge following. Kickett would get alot more support as well.

It feels like it has taken/is going to take forever but i firmly believe once one of the big 3 take it on it will shoot up in terms or everything. Fans, popularity, talent e.t.c

aussie boxing was in the shitter when these blokes were around.. in fact if anything its healthier today than it has been for 20 years. the 90s were absolutely abysmal apart from the names you mentioned..

God - You should see our Friday Night Fights cards - It's just too small a sport in Australia - Angelo Hyder, Jeff Fenech and Murray in melbournes fight cards manage to to come together pretty regularly but the level is pretty low.

There would be lucky to be more than 100 pro fighters in all weights combined in Australia I reckon. That's a pure guess - I would be surprised if there were many more than that.

mundine- enough said needs to step up once and for all or fark off forever which we know won't happen
green- obvious supporter, he is entitled to a bum first up, judge him on next 2
bika- just have a fkn fight, that is worse than fighting bums
katsidis- will be a short career, can't fight career ending fights in Oz, badly managed, come to oz and have an easy fight and earn some coin
    vic- champ
kickett- simply not good enough, look how easy seran hit him

all the ones below this level I agree with daz, simply not good enough and when / if step up, get beat.
