My guess is Carl "The Cobra" Froch's next opponent will be none other than Karo Murat

The fight will take place in Nottingham, sometime in September/October.

Yep, bump this thread when his next opponent is officially announced, see if my guess is right.:hey

Wow, that's a strange defence considering in his first defense he went across the pond to fight a genuinely top fighter. Perhaps he saw some weaknesses in that fight he wants to try to eradicate, and thus fighting a lesser opponent to adjust/practice.

Ranked third by the WBC (Taylor is out and Pascal will fight for the LHW title next, so he is out of the rankings too):

Murat is with Sauerland, a powerful German promoter, who will get him the title shot.

Murat's fought on Setanta last time around, so they'll be pushing for the fight too.

If it is to be Murat then he needs to get his signature on a contract before Kessler does :hey

The Cobra cannot unify yet, I think. Froch needs to fight a second mandatory challenger before he is allowed to unify, because he only won a vacant title...he didn't beat a beltholder to get the title (WBC rules)...and Kessler needs to fight his mandatory challenger, Perdomo, before the WBA will allow him to unify.

Someone correct me if I am wrong. :good

I’m not convinced that Sauerland would let Murat travel to the UK for such a risky fight. Sauerland is a canny operator and Murat is a big ticket seller in Germany. I just don't think he will take the risk this year.

What's the worst thing that can happen to Murat? He gets knocked out...just like HOF Jermain Taylor...except that it would be in the Champion's back yard...so...suddenly it doesn't look so bad...

...This is going to be Murat's biggest ever payday, because as mandatory challenger, he gets a good slice of the purse, and since he travels too...and since the fight will have Americans interested too...it's not a bad option for Murat, who'll never be better than C level anyway...

...I grant you that Murat would rather fight at home, but would he fight at home rather more than say, Ward or Dirrell would, at this stage? I think not.;)

It's just a guess, though...anything can happen in boxing...

Who knows, maybe Froch will decide to travel again and fight Ward in the USA! He went after Taylor, so why not Ward?

...but I'm going with Murat in Nottingham (the Homecoming) - shown live, prime time on ITV.

When I said about Kessler getting the signature, I meant Kessler getting Murats not Frochs. Murat is the standard of Germo-bum that Kessler seems to specialise in these days.

I think you may be right, although if the mandatory defences are to be done within a certain time-frame then technically he might be able to sneak a fight in in between.

Is it not Mick Henessey who decides Froch's opponents? He said that ideally he wants Froch's next fight to be in England, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was that Murat fella.

No...he's not allowed to have an optional just yet...read my previous posts in the thread, please!

    Murat would be a mandatory.

Fat Mick can talk all he wants...it's just hype...but Froch simply can't fight either Kessler, Bute or Andrade next, unless the WBC make an exception in his case and bend the rules big time.
