The brash, trash-talking type like Hopkins, Mayweather and Toney.

The flashy, bling-bling, shallow type like Tarver.

The confident "one of the lads" type like Hatton.

The gentlemanly, respectful-yet-mean type like Cotto and Kessler.

The down-to-earth, regular guy type like Pavlik and Calzaghe

The sulky mean type like Barrera.

The badass iconic type like Jones Jr.

What do you think works best in a boxer?

hmm says... Duran stated it best.....fighters that fight for their country, for the love of boxing, and motivation to prove that they are the best fighter.

    respectful
    humble
    down-to-earth

but entertaining in the ring as well

hmm says... yeah... Duran made that comment regarding why he was liked and why Pacquiao was similar to him (pre DLH match). I'll go try and pull it up. It also takes into consideration why other fighters are loved and regarded highly as well. ie. Hatton, Juanma, Marquez, etc. etc.

I don't have a strict personality for a fighter but I do have a mindset.

"They pay to see me fight, not to see me run. Not to see me talk. They pay to see me fight. I can respect the sweet science while giving them what they want."

A fighter doesn't have to be a gung ho warrior...but he has to understand that people pay to be entertained.

Calzaghe changed. He's not like that anymore.

Roy Jones was never a badass as a personality. He was in the ring, but as a character he's fairly corny.

Thats true he turned in to a bit of jerk. Like the type of guy a kid goes up to for an autograph and he just says "beat it kid".

    hmm says...

found the article about Duran on what makes a fighter great (a little personality)... most of it I agree on.

To an extent, I too like trashtalking as long as they back it up and is not childlike. The reason why I don't like it that much is because I feel that "weak dogs bark the loudest."

I want to watch a skilled boxer dominate. A want a KO in every fight. But I also want a good role model who gives to charity and deosn't have to have their conversations bleeped because they talk trash laced with curses, death threats and stupid childish ****.

Intelligent in the ring and outside of it.
Confident, but not an ******* about it.
    Down to earth.
Fights to win, but NOT AFRAID TO LOSE.
Doesn't flash his money in the TV as if he's gonna share it with the world.

This is why Evander Holyfield is and always will be my favorite fighter.
