I just can't help notice that Berto might just be very similar to Taylor. Just like Taylor he has great athletic abilities and fast hands, but there is where it ends. I see they both rely to damn much on those athletic abilities, but their boxing IQ is low. Also Berto's stamina is questionable. Thoughts?
Nah. I thought Berto dug deep against Collazo. If that were Taylor he would have mailed the last 2 rounds in.
Froch barely touched Taylor for 10 rounds and he still mailed it in. Collazo isnt that soft as a puncher. Bout average. Dazed Hatton pretty good where Tszyu couldnt.
Berto has basically fought 1 guy Collazo and he lost that. So to compare him to Taylor is an insult to Taylor who for all his critcisms at least took the tough fights, what the **** is Berto waiting for?
He's only 25. Isnt he fighting Urango next? And just because a fighter is favored and eeks out a decision doesnt mean he lost.
Against light punchers, JT would phone even more rounds in. Spinks, anyone? That's not knocking him for taking those tough fights; it's knocking him for making them tougher than they had to be, both for his chances and for us to bear watching it. He does seem convinced that he's looking damn good in the ring, no matter what, though. Berto's still has some ring IQ and such to work on, but he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who'll take everything else for granted and coast by on athleticism. Let's see... I should answer how I see your actual question in here somewhere... I think Taylor uses his athleticism for an outside game to get away with those crazy looping punches, while Berto uses those gifts on his inside game (where he does have some IQ going, often knowing how to position his opponent's head where he wants it to be). As for stamina, he needs a few more championship rounds tucked away before there's a real answer for that.
No but he's very crafty, he should have a win over Hatton and Berto. But i dont think Berto is another Taylor.....maybe....but only time will tell.
I dont see how that comparison could be made, its kinda like a stab in the dark. I think Berto passed his test against Collazo. Yes it was a close decision but every young fighter needs a fight like that, to see what he's made of. he came out like a warrior in that 12th round. That speaks volumes, in my eyes. There were a couple of times when the pressure could've have gotten to him and he could've folded but that didnt happen
Berto already showed he had twice the stamina of Taylor when he pulled of the championship rounds against Collazo. Berto is still green and getting better. He could use a better trainer though. Either way he's very different than JErmain Taylor.
