Head to head, overall, is Ike Williams right up there with Duran/Whitaker?

I have been a suscriber to the Ring for around 49-50 years.Boxing Illustrated till it folded, likewise the sister publication to the Ring, Ko.Boxing |News ,till Harry Mullan sadly died.
Turpin 's problem was ***** he couldn't get enough of it,he also had personality and confidence problems,he should have beaten Olson but fell apart.Turpin's win over SRR has overated him in the UK ,imo.He was big and hit hard but too inconsistant ,imo.
I judge a fighter on who he beat ,not when he fought.
I judge the posters on here by what they post, Ive given you my opinion of your posts ,what is the point of further dialogue?
PS Henry Armstrong was 5 5 1/2inches tall so does he stand a chance with Duran? Does that extra half inch give him an edge?

Manassa has been banned for being too knowledgeable on several occasions,no one likes a smart arse ,especially one who has only recently started shaving. If he displays the proper humility towards his elders we may let him remain,[we are conferring in secret even as I speak].

turpinr your a good guy but to disregard the great fighters like Benny Leonard, Armstronmg etc.... is stupid these guys would be great today using the same skills and everything they are 'modern' boxers.

IMO Leonard would beat Duran over 15 on a UD. I think he has the ability to outbox Duran but also has that 'pop' that will help keep Duran off of him for a short second so he can move

I can't say for sure but I think the WBA,wanted Sonny out of the picture, and used the excuse he was past it ,his "connections" did not help ,which is ironic when you think of them making Terrell champ ,and Terrell's manager Bernie Glickman was supposedly a front for some other less savoury chaps, which if I remember right was the reason
, Chuvalo got his shot at Ali in the first place. Yank Durham skillfully piloted Frazier through these murky waters, secretly glad his charge would not have to face the still menacing Sonny, and taking on instead unanked , Fat Buster Mathis a good boxer in the Tony Tubbs mould who lacked real power and never beat a top man,for the New York ,version of the title,he then defended against that house hold name Dave Zygleiwisz, whose credentials were?Surely safer bets than Liston.

He's a quality poster as seen by his previous posts, and he's young, well he claims to be but with his outlook on boxing he's probably in his 50's.lol.

But you would never pick DeJesus to beat Duran, or even last more than a few rounds - seeing as he's "too short" at 5'5" - correct??

Liston wasn't rated high enough to be in the tourney. The WBA put together its tourney out of its top 8 contenders, and Liston wasn't one of them. Frazier had been #1, but was dropped down to #9 after refusing to take part in the tourney; Mildenberger took his spot as the top seeded contender, and Leotis Martin was moved up from #9 to 8 so he could be in the tourney. Liston was not in the top 9 at this time.

I don't think Ring magazine had him in their top 10 either. It wasn't until a year or so later that he regained a spot in the rankings, just before he lost to Martin.

Not that anyone really "missed" Liston anyway, no one really wanted anything to do with him - certainly not the promoters or the networks - after his last fight with Ali.
