Middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik has a bout scheduled for June 27 in Atlantic City against Sergio Mora. But since Mora is coming off a loss, and most importantly, since Warren native Billy Lyell is coming off a huge victory, it makes more sense for Lyell and Pavlik to face each other in Youngstown. Lyell upset the previously undefeated John Duddy last weekend. That upset means Lyell has defeated four top-10contenders in his last few fights. Hopefully, that means Lyell will earn a title shot against Pavlik. But there's one problem: Not only do Lyell and Pavlik train out of the same South Side Boxing Gym out of Youngstown, but the two fighters also share the same trainer in Jack Loew. Is that enough to prevent this fight from taking place? We'll see.
If they both train in the same gym and have the same trainer - they more than likely spar with each other on the regular and already know the outcome of that fight. Jack says Kelly beats the hell out of everyone in the gym - so what's the need of putting them together as professionals. The smart thing to do is put Lyell on Kelly's undercards and let him build his name up a little more - that way he can capitalize on his earnings.
Won't happen. Everyone from Jack Leow to Billy's momma to Billy himself has spoken out against this idea.
:scaredas::scaredas: I can see him now "But Kelly he just beat Duddy!" ".....What do you mean whose John Duddy?!"
As far as I know Arum hasn't said a word. :think Ya just never know what the old man might pull out of his ass. Pavlik vs Lyell in a game of Wi boxing on PPV???
