I like all of the names except Pavlik and Hatton. Both are clearly undeserving of a place, leaving out Chad Dawson is a bad oversight in favour of these two.

Actually I agree. Even if Hatton wins I still have Manny at number one until the Marquez/Mayweather fight. If Marquez wins then he goes to #1

I wouldn't say the speed would be the major difference for me, more a combo of everything. Speed, power and style - Mosley has freakishly long arms!

A Hatton - Cotto fight (IMO) would depend on several things. Mainly, Hatton's ability to push Cotto back. Cotto hasn't relished bouts against the likes of Torres, who is neither as strong nor as skilled as Hatton, whilst the Margo fight exposed pretty much all his weaknesses in front of our eyes, stamina being the main issue.

If Hatton cannot force Cotto back, he would have to maintain his discipline fully for the remainder of the fight..... something which he is unlikely to do.

The one thing that edges me toward Hatton is that Cotto really fancies himself as a boxer..... which for me he isn't.

You were asking for examples earlier.

Now can you give us any previous examples of a P4P number one fighter losing a fight and remaining at number one?

NO, problem with that too ? I hope not since you couldn't provide me with an answer to a fighter jumping from #9 to #1 :)

Erm... no you didn't. READ YOUR POSTS, I cannot "quote" on the works comp

Tarver you said - from 10-3
Hopkins you said - from 10-2

Now i'm not saying i'm right/your wrong. At least I admit that I cannot remeber a fighter having lost a fight and stayed at #1, its just my opinion of what i'd do..... You cannot give an example of a fighter who has gone from #9 to #1 yet you still try and pick my posts apart and claim you've proved me wrong ?

Hopkins went from ten to two, how is that any different from going from nine to one? If Mosley had fought Forrest a few months earlier he would have gone from nine to one.

That example shows that it's perfectly plausible for such a thing to happen.

Because I didn't ask for number 2's or WOULD have beens.

There's a difference to being at number 2 instead of 1. There's also a difference between 'would have' and 'doing'. Hatton 'would have' have been number 1 if he 'did' beat Mayweather but he didn't.

What a load of crap. I gave you a directly relevant example of a very similar situation (even down to the fact that Hopkins had fought his whole career at one weight and was facing someone naturally lighter) to show that such an event is perfectly plausible.

What with the fact that there have only been, what, 7 or 8 different boxers recognised as the consensus number one P4P in the last two decades or so, there is no specific previous example where a fat manc has moved from the number nine to number one spot and celebrated with a yard of stella. Apologies for that.

So do you have any other examples of where someone would or could have stayed number one despite a defeat?

De La Hoya lost the number one spot despite a MD defeat to highly ranked Trinidad, but they were both established at the same weight.

Likewise Jones losing to Tarver, Mosley losing to Forrest and Hopkins losing to Taylor.

Would Mayweather have retained the number one ranking if he'd lost when moving up in weight against Mitchell - very much doubtful? In this case, however, Hatton is clearly a higher quality opposition for Pacquaio.

Probably the best example you could use would be Roy Jones fighting Ruiz when he was ranked #2 P4P. If Jones had lost there would have been very reasonable arguments for it not affecting his ranking. Not sure the same applies in this case as the move up in weight is not so dramatic and Jones never claimed he was moving to heavyweight permanently whereas Pacquiao and Roach both say that 140 is his natural fighting weight at this point in his career.
