And beyond. What if he defeats Mayweather, and a handful of other elite fighters? Would he be, say, a top 30 ATG great? Thoughts on that and tonights match-up?
A win tonight cements him inside the top 50 All Time imo, if he already isn't there. If Floyd looks as impressive as usual against JMM, and then Pac beats him, then yeah, I think top 30 would only be fair.
I guess this is how people felt when they saw Duran fighting and going through all those divisions, we are seeing a legend in action :rasta
If Paquiao beats Hatton he will have been the lineal champion at flyweight and junior weltewrweight. It would be a feat unequaled in the history of the sport.
IF Hatton loses my current opinion on him as one of the least talented and worst notable British champions of all-time would be assured beyond all doubt.
A fighter has to be retired and all his big name opponents as well, before you can start talking Legacy, with any justification. We can only speculate, and if you wait a mere seven hours you may get part of your question answered. This sort of thing is for the general forum, they deal in speculation, we (the Classic Forum) should deal in facts; and conclusions based on solid foundations...
I think he has a lot more to lose than gain in this fight. To me I still see a lot of holes in his game, so it will be interesting to see how well he does against a guy on his physical level. I think this would be the beginning of him entering the elite level of boxing. Lets face it the legends he has faced have been pretty much at the ends of their careers, and the marquez fights were very close. Hatton isnt the greatest fighter, but hes strong, in his prime, and very physical, so it should prove alot about how good he is if he blows him out.
