I hear you Mantequilla. But no one was saying he was one of the worst British champs before tonight's result. In fact quite a few experts were either picking Hatton outright, or at least a close fight. I think Pacquiao should be given his due personally. Cheers.
Of course he should. He was fighting the apparent top man at 140, who was undefeated at the weight and was meant to be his first live opponent over 130.
Oh i take nothign away from Manny. The fact i've never rated Hatton shouldn't cloud the fact this was a damn good win..just for mee it was always going to be because of the size difference- it's a natural featherweight\superfeather smashing a world class junior welter-than because of the ability of Hatton.
I honestly think Hatton's a B+ level fighter. Just, JUST shy of being world class. But, really... A fighter who came up in weight like Manny has KO'ing him stone cold with one punch (From his weak hand) when Hatton was a JMW in the ring? I don't care if it was the Hoya from the Mayweather fight, this Pacquiao would have killed him.
After what I just seen, Pacquia is quite possibly the greatest fighter of my life time. And that includes Chavez and Whitaker.
I'd agree wiht that, Russell.I thinK Hatton is about on par with someone like Billy Costello, Lonnie smith etc or some of the other junior welters that were passing the belts around in the eighties while Pryor was the man. He's had a better career with the one big win over Kostya, but he's not really anymore talented. Asero mentions Pac being better than Arguello(who is only marginally bigger than him really) incidentally, but even the shot Arguello that laid out Costello would have done likewise to this ricky imo, and claimed his fourth crown.
Awful performance by Hatton. Absolutely awful. Walks in with no head movement and rightfully gets dumped on his ass.
What? Anyone who beats Kostya Tszyu and Jose Luis Castillo, added to a resume of solid wins of genuine top 10 world contenders, is clearly a world class fighter.
why on earth did you expect hatton to have head movement and to defend his chin...he is not that type of a fighter...a limited fighter and PBF already exposed him
All fighters have their limitations, that comment is a bit glib and cliche for this moment. It is not a case of Hatton being that bad, it was just tonight Paciquao was that good. Hatton was coming off a fine win over Malignaggi, and walked into the ring this morning as an undefeated fighter, (at the weight), and also as THE Junior Welterweight Champion of the World. It was an awesome performance by Paciquao, time will tell how good it was.
Hatton looked much sharper in the early going against Floyd than he did against Pac though. Hatton was always limited yes, but he literally got hit with every punch Pac threw tonight. That is shocking even by his standards.
