It improves your overall fitness and stamina very much, thus your conditioning is better, and you can press yourself even more in the ring. Not only that, when you've gone some rounds you'll start to tire in your legs. If you've done you're running you'll be fine.

Indeed. Plus if you run sideways and backwards it will improve your agility / mobility. Add in throwing punches once every while, and it will improve the timing between hand and footwork. Add some sprints and it will improve stamina even more and build up some muscles in the legs. Depending how you do it it can be very beneficial, but I've never been a fan of just straightforward running 5 miles for example.

It give you heart hypertrophy; the increase of size and strength of your cardiac muscles as well as increased cappellerasation and the increase of diameter of some blood vessels to speed up the rate of oxygen transfer to your muscles.

    A level p.e biatches!

Seriously it depends. Some people can be great runners but have poor in ring stamina. I don't think it can harm you but the best thing is to mix everything like RDJ said.

Look into plyometrics and if you have football at your school I would recommend working out with them. Gets you into great shape

I know about plyometrics but I'm not sure why you came up with it. Sprinting is plyometric, as is throwing a hook or most explosive movements actually.

Do you mean American football or normal football btw? I agree on the need for cross training, but I think following an American football routine would be too much geared towards strength. But of course it would not hurt doing one once every week.

It doesn't have to be just running. People will perform biking or swimming as an alternate and it will still increase your body's endurance. There is no "pick one and do it". All 3 will work and they will work well. The only problem with distance biking/running/swimming is that it will do nothing for your speed or agility. That's why people can't only follow the oldschool LSD running method, they have to incorporate speed and agility drills as well. I think land sprints with hills are the simplest and most effective way to build speed and playing sports like basketball will do wonders for your agility. Side-Note to above comments: Power is developed THROUGH boxing as well. Nearly everything you do in a boxing gym is plyometric/dynamic training. My 2 cents.

Well, I have to say that if you don´t run, don´t box:p. I understand that not everyone don´t agree with this, I don´t say that I am right but for me and my fighters it has proved that running is VERY important and for me, who likes to dance in the ring I gotta have the running, nothing is as good as running for stamina in my opinion.

Running is good for you plain and simple, try mixing sprints into a long distance run to work your cardio for different spurts of intensity as well.

Aerobic fitness is useful for a boxer because it speeds your recovery between a barrage of punches or a long round to be able to do it again and again. Boxing relies on anaerobic and aerobic fitness. Sprinting and longer slower runs. Develop good aerobic endurance before doing heavy sprinting. Sprints can be done 3 times a week and longer slower 2 times to maintain. Obviously, if you are looking to excel in endurance, more will need to be done.

There's a mental aspect to it as well. Running for most people is unenjoyable, which is why they don't do it. Learning to overcome physical discomfort and press on, despite your body telling you to quit is obviously a big benefit to a boxer. Improves confidence and perserverance as well as stamina.
