Otherwise why the hell would he announce his return in the same location Pacquiao and Hatton were about to fight in a few hours, and why would he pick career FW JMM (other than because it's a high caliber but rather easy comeback fight), the common opponent and big rival of Pacquiao? The place is perfect, the timing is perfect.

Floyd is smart. Very smart. He knows PacMan well, Ricky even more, had info from the Hatton camp (Roger Mayweather), so when Pacquiao was fighting a common opponent again, the chances in Floyd's view were good that Manny will outshine him AGAIN (SD / TKO vs. Oscar, TKO9 / KO2 vs. Hatton), so he fights Juan Manuel Marquez, and chances are good he'll outshine Pacquiao (draw, debated SD). Perfect way to set up the big fight and split the fans. P4P king vs. P4P king, this is what boxing wants.

Pac-Hatton was the biggest fight this year in the US. Floyd-JMM can be just as big in the PPV category. Mayweather Jr's timing and placing was perfect, announcing his return on the afternoon of the biggest fight of the year vs. a common opponent at a catchweight, in the range Manny fought De La Hoya. Do your math and expect Floyd DENYING the fight and constantly outprizing himself before finally saying yes. He's the master of these games. :thumbsup

I can't see how this fight won't happen. Floyd fighting Marquez, Pac calling out Cotto.

Floyd vs JMM will be big, but it won't be as big as Pac vs Hatton

It's a BS fight, but I think it can do even better PPV numbers. Floyd is better at PPV than Pac (compare their Oscar fight numbers), and JMM is better at PPV than Hatton in the US. Smart pick by Floyd, the whole Latino boxing community and emotional boxing fans will buy the fight and root for JMM, Floyd fans will buy too, and the average viewers will look into it because of the 24/7, which was announced on the press conference. To be honest, I don't like his media personality, but Floyd made 24/7, and that show sells BIG.

Good post and I hope you're right. Funny how boxing is not just a sport but a damn soap opera as well.

I agree on some of the points made in the thread.

Floyd love him or hate him is definetly the bad guy who most people want to see annihalated so this alone will sell tons of PPV's especially if they make the 24/7 into a real rivalry and bad blood affair.

Floyd will probably insult him and then get everyones attention and it's perfect fight selling right there.

if Floyd wins of course he will fight pac, he came to claim his P4P spot.

I just think that this time he has taken on a challenge that wont be as easy as he may think it will be.

I see Floyd losing sooner or later because that 2 year lay off is going to surface in his fight against Marquez and if it doesn't then he is definetly a true professional

Why would I? JMM is a career FW, not really someone who moves up as he ages. He was pushed back by Diaz at LW, I've never expected Floyd to actually come back against a very small LW. Floyd could fight someone like Berto, Collazo, Quintana, these are lower top10 WWs. But as I state it in the 1st post, the fight is smart thinking. Still a BS fight. Juan Manuel Marquez at catchweight WW? :think

Because the world's boxing media & reporters were all in Las Vegas.
If Mayweather announced his fight with JMM on any other day,
only 4 reporters and a local T.V crew would show up.

Money Mayweather ain't going out like that!

Check the last time Floyd Mayweather had a lay off it was just as long as this one....he just didn't announce it as a retirement...

Rest after stress is what the body needs...he needed a extended vacation...shoulder problems and hand problems.

32 and has never really tooken serious damage in the ring...Probably never really stayed out of the gym the whole time everybody thought he was out partying and his training regime probably the most brutal of any other fighter...Floyd is not losing anytime soon unless someone gets really lucky homie.

Of course BigB its all premeditated, like you said, why else do it at the night of the Hatton/Pacquiao fight. The fact that Pacquiao performed so good makes this fight even more appealing now that the public knows Floyd is coming back. Everyone is already thinking "once he gets over Marquez..."

i definitely agree. i ****in hope mayweather fights pacquiao, it would show he's still got balls and it would definitely shut people like me (who think he's afraid to fight the best) up. unfortunately for him at this point i think pacquiao would win.

LOL. Reason Floyd announced his comeback and fight JMM BEFORE the Pac/Hatton fight so he can avoid Pac.
