Hello Everyone. I am not going to say I told you so, but I talked before about Manny Pacman's rare combination of Speed/Two Fisted power that only people like Joe Louis and Mike Tyson had...Its a special kind of power that when you land, the other guy does funny things...Ultimatley there is no such thing as a good chin against Manny Pacquaio, he HAS the ability to get too and knockout anyone in history at/near his best weight class. Now being able too and doing so is a different situation, but THE ABILITY to do so IS there, something not many ATG fighters throughout history have. Manny has IT. If Mayweather beats JMM, and then Pacman fights Mayweather, not only will it be the biggest pay per view fight ever, but one of the biggest most important legacy defining fights of all time. Manny has already built himself quite the legacy recording very good wins from 112 all the way through 140lb, but a knockout win over Undefeated Floyd Mayweather will be the icing on the cake to vault him itno top 20 p4p all time career. It's safe to say that Pacman is a once a decade type fighter, a rare breed of speciman that does not come around very often in the lighter divisions. Many others including myself have been saying this before the Hatton fight, but I think it took the Hatton kayo to open up many peoples eyes.
Suzie, on a much more important note have you apologized to Magoo yet. Going after the guy is one thing, and bound to happen among us now and then, but the wife comments surely need addressing in that thread. You know nothing about her and she has done nothing at all to you. You and Magoo don't have to get on but you do need to sort this part.
If he beats Mayweather I would agree with you. I honestly felt Hatton fought a stupid amatuer type of fight. I think Mayweather did a nice sales job on a lot of people, because I expected a much smarter defensive counter punching gameplan from Mayweather and Hatton, and instead it was a wide open mess. It made for a spectacular ending.
Seeing it the same way SQ - a very exciting time for boxing - a great breathe of fresh air for the sport, and at a time when it does needs one! Also continues the trend away from the heavyweight division, for so long where most of the interest and money lay.
It wouldn't have mattered if Hatton had fought his career best fight..moved his head, etc., Pac would have caught him and destroyed him, IMO.
You can always blame Hatton....... But this was simply Pac's version of Tyson/Spinks. We can blame Spinks for a thousand mistakes, but ultimately, he was never gonna beat Tyson, and neither was Hatton ever going to beat Pacquiao (in hindsight, i thought it was pretty even going in).
I'm glad you were right on this one, because you had something to make up for after you touted Pavlik is one of the best middles ever before he got shut out by a 44 year old Hopkins.
What were the thousand mistakes? A lot of people picked Spinks in the Tyson fight. Hatton was the agressor in this fight, total opposite. Thats not to say Pac is not a great fighter, because he is, but..... Pac even said hes never hit someone so cleanly and hard. I too expected a much more competitive fight.
I expected a more competitive fight as well. In fact, i thought it was a pretty even matchup. Okay, Spinks vs Tyson wasn't, but you can go by the same reasoning that it was stupid of him to try to hit Tyson hard early on, instead of boxing from a distance. Not to mention the kneecap, the inactivity, etc. Enough excuses but it was just Tyson's night.
Yeah, he also has the aggression to use that gift. Someone like Roy Jones Jr had awesome power in both hands, and amazing speed, but was so cautious that he didn't really utilize that to anywhere near its potential. Hearns is another guy with two-fisted power and speed. The result? In 2 rounds he starched Duran, a guy who went the distance with Hagler, Barkley etc. That's why it would be foolish to write off Pacman against PBF.
Honestly though Chris, I have not given up on Pavlik yet. No, he is not the ATG fighter I thought he was, and I do think hopkins is THAT good(Top 5 in history)....but Pavlik still has yet to lose at 160 and if he convinsingly beats Arthur Abraham then he is right back on the radar...Pavlik has potential to be a very good middleweight champion. Lets see how it plays out. He did get embarrased by Hopkins and I was wrong about that.
