Nah, I enjoy debates, thats partly why Im here. I want to watch FMJ vs JMM & study his movements n **** before commiting myself to predicting a FMJ-Pac winner, I lean towards Floyd on the basis that he is still the same fighter as before but 19 months off & coming back at age 32 might have done irreversable damage, hope not, lets see tho.
I also put much more into achievement in ranking fighters than skill set and talent. I do put that into the equation, it's just not as important as achievements. I have a hypothetical question though to ask. Let's say Pacquiao and Mayweather a couple months after the decade ends (you have it 2010, but let's define 00s as 00-09, and say they fight in the spring of 2010). And Mayweather outclasses Pacquiao and beats him in convincing fashion. On one hand, you can say the fight had nothing to do with the decade, so it should have no bearing on who's the fighter of the 00s. On the other hand, skill-set and talent do have some bearing as well as achievement. When people rank Duran as the fighters of the 70s, it's not solely because he was dominating the lightweights (and Palomino at 147). It's also because he was such a great fighter with top-notch offense and defense. Would a Mayweather win over Pacquiao a couple months into 2010 have a bearing onto the best of the decade since we also are taking into account skill level and talent, and it's unlikely that your abilities are suddenly going to disappear in a couple months? I'm thinking this because I had suspected at first that a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight would take place late this year, and it would be for all the marbles. P4P rankings, fighter of the 00s, etc...But now I hear Bob Arum trying to promote Pacquiao-Cotto in the winter (maybe it's a negotiating ploy) and Dan Rafael is saying Mayweather-Pacquiao is more likely in early 2010. If Arum keeps it in-house with Top Rank and makes Pacquiao-Cotto and Mayweather keeps fighting GBP fighters and takes on Mosley, then that would still be fine with me. Provided both Mayweather and Pac win those bouts and face each other in the spring of 2010, does it still apply for the fighter of the decade award if you say the decade ended on December 31, 2009??
Manny has done some amazing things, but, Roy is still King. There is nobody who was close to his talent, nobody. He dominated almost every time he was out. Manny has some close fights with Morales and Marquez, some that people thought he actually lost. Roy has dominated for more than a decade, and nobody ever gave him a close fight, except for Montell Griffith. Who, Roy ended on a KO until he hit Griffith while he was down, giving him an automatic disqualification, and his first loss in his career.
