Because he couldn't do anything different. Nothing Hatton would've done at that point would've lead to anything. Even if he tried to hug and hit to Ruiz like proportions, he wouldn't of gotten past round 5.
Fair point, WWM. A large number of the people picking this fight didn't expect Hatton to lay a glove on Pacquiao or trap him at any point during the entire contest. Hatton managed to get Pacquiao on the ropes within the first 20 seconds, and land a series of hard punches during the 2nd round that shook Pacquiao up impressively. The blatant X factor was Pacquiao's shocking power, which nobody least of all Hatton seemed to be anticipating. Personally, this looked alot the way I could have expected, minus Hatton spending a bit too much time on the outside and him being utterly incapable of taking Pacquiao's punches. Everyone on Earth expected Hatton to be FAR more durable than that, him included. I think Hatton should be forgiven to some extent for the INHUMAN amount of punching power Pacquiao came out of NOWHERE with. The way he floated into Pacquiao's eraser was obviously in no way forgivable, and Hatton will bear the burden of that for the rest of his life.
I think the expression on Hatton's face after the first round knock down sums it up. It happened so fast that for a moment that I didn't believe Hatton was legitimately hurt ( I don't think he believed it either ) but thought he was rather caught on the side of the head off balance. Not until he got up to his feet and felt dazed is when I think the reality set in of who and what he was dealing with that night. He seemed to be almost in so much disbelief that he attempted maul Pacquiao again to only be hurt and knocked down again for a second time within a minute.
Is he a pikey?I could hardly understand a ****ing word he said. What's all this third person reference Ricky Hatton does this and Ricky Hatton does that.Dude is either drunk or has a huge ****ing ego.
And so it begins "Ah'm not wun fer mekin excoozes, boot..." He's in denial, "if it had gone longer it might have turned out different" - yeah, you might have ended up pissing blood and having an extended hospital stay if it had gone any longer, mate... "He basically hit me with the first punch he threw" - has he forgotten he got dropped twice in round 1? What a ****ing sorry arse - take it like a man - you got whupped, the more rubbish you speak now only prolongs the humiliation.
id say retire. its better to be rememberd as someone who challenge the top and lost than to win at a hundred bum. he'd be remembered as a gallant fighter who fought gallantly and lost.
Hatton's only gotten beat by the best p4p fighters in the world, he should fight Junior Witter if Witter wins his WBC title match next. There's still big fights and championships for Hatton to win and make money off of.
Typical Hatton delusion. "He basically hit me with the first punch he threw" Now, that's a ****ing lie, Ricky. You repeatedly walked into right hooks, until the fourth floored you. You resumed your stupid attacks in the second, and proceeded to get hit some more, until the final blow. Hatton is so delusional in his interviews it isn't even funny. The only true thing he said was the result might have been different had the bout lasted longer. He could have catched Manny with something big while he was coming in, like he did at the start of the second. But we will never know. Enjoy your retirement Ricky.
He needs a long rest and think it over. I personally want him back if he still has it . . . psychologically to compete.
Witter would own him as well...Guy was a fan favorite for a lot of reasons but never really deserved the fan fare based on his ACTUAL skill. Hatton has a questionable chin, no defense and moderate power/speed. Kostya was over the hill and Ricky had a hometown ref allowing all the grabbing and holding. People forget that Hatton was only marginally ahead in that fight going into the 12th. He pulled the wool over people's eyes and the blind faith the Brits show in this guy is comical. Better retire now Ricky or you are going to keep getting KTFO.
Does anyone know what Hatton meant at the end of the interview when he said "There was things that could have been different but I'd rather not talk about it?"
