i have recently read Dundees book and he states that Ali was crap in the gym and sparring and just really put it together on fight night
Ali circa 1967 would have been way too fast for Holmes. However, I think Holmes was a great and under-rated fighter. http://www.amazon.com/Joe-Gans-Biog...39947/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b/183-3907940-0224706
Holmes could not duplicate what Ali did...Ali was a far better fighter a fight between them would more than likely gone the distance or Ali by tko or RSF
Exactly. Holmes is known for being dismissive of other fighters. He said Tyson didn't have that much power, for example. He's just one of those loudmouth ex-ghetto boys who tries to cover up his insecurities by acting arrogant and talking sh*t.
Mr.Bill you are a man of much knowledge and wisdom,I have learned a lot about Holmes from you!!!:happyI really think Larry would have beat Ali.We both know we dont know how really great Easton Assassin could have been!!!:bbb
Larry Holmes is great............ Ray, if anybody tells you differently, they are full of ****......... Holmes was great.......... I lived through his championship reign throughout high school................ He was THE MAN!!:deal MR.BILL
Holmes was a great fighter, a top 3 or 4 HWT of all time but prime Ali beats him 9-6. Ali was the best ever HWT IMO.
i have read the book and dont remember reading anything like this. but i do recall him saying that tyson would not of made it into the top 10 in the 70's
Hausers book said Holmes was spouting to some reporters about how he was the real champ while he was still in Alis camp and word got back to Ali. Next day in sparring Ali did a number on him. I will have a look for actual quotes but basically Larry had said Ali had the title but he was the better fighter, Ali had nothing left etc. Ali quoted these statements back to Holmes as he took him to school
Why do you think the 1967 Ali would have beaten a prime Holmes? Ali trying to intimidate Holmes might have really pissed Holmes off. Holmes' jab neutalizes Ali's jab. I think Ali faced better competition in his "second" career.
