I was wondering why Bernard would be so keen to get down to 168. Hopkins has never won a belt at Super Middle has he? Perhaps he sees it as a pretty winnable fight for him, along with whatever Froch now brings to the table in terms of venue etc... I remember him saying one of the reasons he wanted to go to Cruiser was for the multi weight accolade. Just an idear...
Taking this fight for the Cobra depends entirely on Froch's teams ability to get another big fight that is more winnable for slighly less money. At his age, even without miles on the clock 'easy' WBU or Zsolt Erdei type defences are not what's called for so I wouldn't be suprised to see this fight made. Couldn't see any other outcome than a Hopkins win though. That wouldn't be a disgrace, Pavlik isn't being talked about as the next big thing after his schooling but his career isn't over because he was handed one loss by an ATG. And if he won......
If Froch is smart he will take a fight that offers higher rewards and less of a stylistic nightmare. He dodged a bullet against Taylor and should pick his next fight carefully.
I agree. Hopkins is a bad fight for anyone. Carl should target Bute,Abraham or Kessler, and if he does fight Hopkins is has to be at 168
If he won, people would say that Hopkins grew old overnight or that Hopkins really won, like they did when Calzaghe outpointed him. It's a no win fight for Froch in my opinion
It isn't a good fight for Froch. Froch fights like Hopkins but Hopkins is actually very good at it and doesn't rely on strength, power and durability.
i wouldn't be too sure about career suicide for froch,,surely his biggest payday wouldn't be suicidal? then again ,keeping your hands that low is already suicidal? or so i thought,,
Eventually, B-Hop will get old, have one fight too many, and someone will retire him. I'm not saying that man is Froch, but someone is going to be in the right place at the right time eventually. It's not a terrible fight to take, the money would be great, and no-one will really care if he gets his ears boxed off by an ATG. And you never know, he might just luck out.
spot on. the WBC also said the winner of the vacant belt would have to then make 2 mandatory defenses, so Froch will be in against the winner of Ward-Miranda next. after that maybe they could do it.
If Froch somehow beat Hopkins,I dont think anyone could discredit the victory. JC's win was but after Hopkins schooled Pavlik, people realised how big a win it actually was. Is Froch a big enough name at the mo to sell out the O2??? I wouldn't think so. I have to give Foch his dues.....as a Calzaghe fan,I really disliked him but if he stops calling out Joe and carries on in the manner he is,well, fair play to him-he deserves Britains backing.
