Arum on the potential Pacquiao-Cotto fight.......

If a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto were to take place, it's being said that a catch-weight between 140 and 147-pounds would have to be agreed upon. Bob Arum of Top Rank, who promotes both fighters, says the negotiations for the fight will not get serious until the weekend of June 13, when Cotto defends his WBO welterweight title against Joshua Clottey at New York's Madison Square Garden. Pacquiao will be sitting ringside for the fight.

"Manny is going to be in New York for Miguel's fight and we expect to be able to advance the conversations that weekend. I've already spoken with Manny about the possibility of a fight with Cotto and he told me that we'll sit down to talk in June when he travels to New York. If Cotto beats Clottey, that same weekend we will have some news," Arum told Primera Hora.

While many would like to see Pacquiao face Floyd Mayweather Jr [if he beats Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18], Arum says the Cotto fight is easier to make and the winner could fight Mayweather in 2010.

"We are not going to wait for Mayweather. It is more feasible for Cotto to face Pacquiao in November or December and the winner to fight Mayweather next year. At the present, Cotto is one of the most important boxers on the market and a fight with Pacquiao is very attractive," Arum said.

"The decision has be Cotto's. He has to let us to know if he is interested in the fight. I believe the fight is good for him. He would make very good money and from what I understand, a lot of fans in Philippines and Puerto Rico, they want to see them fight. But we have to sit down to negotiate and that we expect to do in June."

also here's an update on Cotto's camp

I have enough of a professional mind to get over past problems and focus on winning the bout over Cottley, said Cotto, who decided to train in Tampa to get away from the distractions that might crop up with his training in Puerto Rico. He also assured hes feeling very comfortable with his new trainer, Joe Santiago, and confident in winning. Santiago has been in his corner for over eight years. This will be the fourth time in five years that the champ will fight on the eve of the Puerto Rican day Parade.[/FONT]

Too risky for Pacquiao when a potential fight with the winner of Mayweather-Marquez looms. **** off Arum, this fight can wait.

Win or lose, no one can accuse Pac of picking easy fights if the Cotto fight goes through. Be honest, who the hell even thought this would be talked about as a possible fight in the future?

....too bad, Cotto'll beat the ash off this boy then Pac is next, then Floyd then Cotto'll be the new P4P King and will have to make his 1st defense as king against Margarito, i can see it all happening :happy

word, i agree, Pac's one of the biggest, if not THE biggest warriors i've ever seen, and i've seen quite a few in my short 20 years of living

I think Cotto will be happy to survive vs. Clottey with a close/debated decision victory.

Pac is willing to fight cotto, the man who floyd was willing to retire than to fight with. That says a lot...

we'll see my friend, but i dont think it'll be close at all, i say 9 rounds to 3, Cotto's favor....but Clottey is a tough nugget, this fight will be very interesting, for more reasons then 1 i might add

So is Clottey's. They have two common opponents, Margarito and Judah, watch all 4 fights and draw conclusions after that.

The X factor in any Pac man fight is Roach, he will figure out the weaknesses and Manny will execute his plan.

Clottey is going to be tough for Cotto so he better just stay focused on that right now.

and I think I am in the minority that thinks JMM will be a bad choice for Floyd's first fight back.
