Here's a video of me doing heavybag work, I've been doing boxing training on my own the past week and a half so I probably have some technique errors so a video of me doing heavybag work is needed. So just critique my technique, combinations, handspeed, etc... and tell me what I need to do, styles/fighters to look to in videos for future preferences, etc...
It's been enjoyabe doing these but I'm still not where I need to be conditionwise yet.

Sup Wizard how are you doing my man?
Im glad youre active on the forum once again, you're a good addition to esb.:good

    You want my advice mate?

First of all you need to get a real heavybag, that bag or pillows put into a bag is not going to help you much as its not at your immediate height, nor does it weigh enough to withstand your best shots. (Im looking at your video more like its a speedbag to be honest)
Second, you were doing 2minute rounds or didn't you take time? You should start doing three minute rounds on the bag mate.

Well thats that off to techniques and whatnot.

The good thing I can see is that you're keeping your chin down, even whilst throwing punches, youre not letting it hang out there like tha vast majority of rookies does.
But you definitely need to slow down a few levels, slow down and think about your technique, extend your punches and put some of your hip into them, don't flinch your punches. And I saw you did what we call the ***** slap, you kind of punched with your palm against the bag which can end up hurting your hands, so again.. think about the technique brother :smoke

Again, I look at it like a speedbag routine moreso than a heavybag routine what you did in that video, but you gotta get your hands up, and definitely back to your guard when you're done throwing a punch, you kind of bring them back way low. And bring those elbows in mate, they're out there hanging, not a good thing :D

Another thing you need to do is plant your feet and throw punches, start with your jab, double it up, try the half jab and bring a right hand behind it and so forth. You're wasting a lot of energy bouncing around like that when you can be just as effective doing nothing more than stepping back just once.

Your hand speed seems good, whats your weight and height mate?
Like I said man, you've got a lot to work on but you've shown that you have some speed, and theres hope for a jab in there somewhere, you showed it once or twice :D

Shortlist of what I wanna see from you.
    1. Tighten your guard up, bring the elbows in.
    2. End your punches coming back to the guard, not when your hand is extended.
    3. Use the jab a lot more and try to bring a straight right hand behind it, keep it simple you know?
    4. Plant your feet and be aware of your stance.
    5. Slow down a few levels :deal

Come on man, boxinwizard is one of the most honored posters of esb, he goes way back, and he's one of the nicest guy you will meet so shut the **** up man.

He's clearly looking for advice, not someone bashing him.. I bet he knows he has a lot to improve, thats why he posted this.

Thanks for the analysis MrMagic without disrespecting me like others have done here. I've been good, I just finished my junior year of college today. I'm using an Everlast Freestanding heavybag, it's just covered in garbage bags to prevent rain and other bad conditions from getting on it. I will definitely slow down, I've just been thinking "I can't wait to get in shape and spar some people" but I knew I'd have some technique problems which is why I posted it. I'm satisfied with my handspeed but I do need to do something more than be Sven Ottke stylewise. Which punches do I tend to do the slap with? I'm 5'9 170, so I'm aiming to fight amateur at 165. Thanks for the in-depth analysis and I hope to improve more and more every week.:good

Its not disrespectful to find that video hilarious.

Just get in a gym brah!

Your jabs are like slaps french people used to challenge each other to a duel with.

Look buddy, you may be a great poster as Magic said but your gonna get flames and jokes for that video.

    You want serious advice. Ok.

Stop well your ahead. I don't mean stop your pursuit of learning boxing, I mean stop doing stuff you have no idea what your doing. Why are you throwing combo's, much less a left hook, much less a right hand, when you don't know how to throw a proper jab.

Do you know what a lot of gyms start new people doing, in terms of boxing related training for the first couple weeks (this is what I did anyway...)?

Looking in the mirror, proper stance, hands up, step forward jab. step forward jab, backwards jab, backwards jab, crouch -- done slowly. Done for weeks bud. No pads, no heavybag. Just that slow ass technique work, you cant even really call it shadowboxing.

So in all honesty thats why this is a joke, if your serious then you need to realize that learning this takes time and you need to have patience and learn it properly.

Now you can certainly get yourself in shape or what have you in the meantime.

Also I recommend a haircut

Is this a joke? Some of the funniest **** I've ever seen. :rofl

Hmm, everything is wrong. No proper punching technique, not extending punches - only slaps, jump on your feet, drop your hands, you punch almost the same combination over and over.

The bottom line is that you have very little technique. Find a gym and good luck

Did Everlast tell you to use the plastic n tape covering fearing loss of profits ?

In all seriousness, you put a vid up and fair play. As Mr Small says, you are asking for advice. You got some good advice from people too. Lot of typing. Hope some of it works for you.

Post up another vid in a cpl weeks, so ppl see the development and prove some wrong.

    Best of luck Wizard :thumbsup
