That was 8 years ago. Welcome to 2009.

Nate said something funny about that in an interview yesterday, talking about the style differences between black african fighters and black american fighters. He said comparing Ledwaba, a typical African-style fighter, to a top american black fighter is about the same as comparing Ben Tackie to Shane Mosley, or something like that. There ARE style differences between typical african fighters and slick american fighters. thats just a fact. It's like pointing out that Kenyan track stars are usually faster than american track stars or something. Is it racist, or just a factual observation?

Yeah, that Azumah Nelson sure sucked, Dick Tiger...right on Nate.

I guess the real difference between most African fighters and their US brothers is that the Afriacan ones are a bit more respectful and don't get cold cocked sticking their chin out at Aussies showing off ;)

Jesus Christ, it isnt about skin color. It's about STYLE. What they pointed out was that Pac's management has kept him away from slick fighters that use movement, footwork, and angles (which typically describes most lighter-weight black american fighters), and instead have made an effort to put him in with face-first type fighters that come right at you, because THAT STYLE matchup favors Pac. Why is that so hard to understand? In the past 5 years, the only fighter that used any movement or angles with Pac was JMM, who obviously had more success than anyone else with Pac. Everyone else was the typical Mexican "come right at you" style with little movement or angles.

Anyone who thinks its "racist" and cant acknowledge the simple fact that there are MAJOR style differences between a Morales/Barerra type fighter and a Mosley/Campbell type fighter are just ignoring the FACTS. There ARE style differences, and pointing it out is FAR from crying discrimination.

This guy fights more mexican than most Mexicans.
He is like the black Mexican in my opinion. Mosley may be fast but he is no slickster. Actually he has trouble with slicksters.

Never said it was racism, but now it seems like its sterotyping on Nate's part, and his knowledge of the kind of fighter Ledabwa was is very lacking. Ledabwa was considered a very slick fighter, that relied on the jab and ring generalship when Pacquiao got to him, and so was JMM but since hes not a "top black American fighter" he doesnt count right?

When you look at the top fighters when Pacquiao first became a name in 2003 for beating Barrera, there wasnt that "top slick american name" around his division until he moved up to lightweight last year. The only slick boxer Roach admittingly was protecting Pacquiao from was Guzman, not exactly the criteria of an "slick AMERICAN" huh.

I dont know if you could call it a "style", but its no coincedence that most every fighter who is ever described as "slick", "elusive", etc. just HAPPENS to be a black american (Guzman probably being the notable exception). I cant recall EVER hearing those descriptions of mexican or european fighters. And this isnt anything new. Was Hatton ever referred to as "slick"? Was Morales ever referred to as "elusive"? I dont think so. And why cant anyone point out those differences without being accused of playing the race card?

Is it racist to say that blacks make the best running backs in the NFL? (not fullbacks, but running backs) Or is there no real style difference between Barry Sanders and Mike Alstott? Tell me the last white "cutback" style runner worth a damn in the NFL. Is that racist?

Is it racist to say that blacks are typically better basketball players than whites, or is it factual? Sure, occasionally you have a Bird or a Stockton, but I'm talking on the whole, not the exceptions. Is that racist?

Shane, like Marquez, has "engaged" a whole lot more in his later years. Back when Shane was at lightweight, he was slick as hell. his footwork and movement were ridiculous. You couldnt hit him with a bucket of water.

Mayweather never fought a top filipino fighter either so does that mean he will be in a rude awakening as well?

Greg Leon is unbelievably idiotic. It's almost embarrassing how utterly useless his contributions are, and how he interviews the same five fighters constantly. I thought it was hilarious watching him talk his way out of a big payday for his fighter, when they balked at a high offer to fight the then-undefeated Kelly Pavlik and ****ed the whole thing up.

"Breaking news.....remember where you heard it first!"
Great, the tenth Ishe Smith interview this month. Way to go, Greg.
