Somebody give me a definition of a "pure boxer"

Sumbu Kalambay.

His win over the great Mike McCallum is maybe the best example of pure boxing I have ever seen.

 

Malinaggi and Calzaghe are the best comtemporary examples i can think of.

Malignaggi? Having a poor KO ratio does not equal a great boxer.

Calzaghe? His defence was always far too sloppy to be considered a pure/great boxer.

No-one else here seen Kalambay-McCallum I?

 

Yeah Kalambay was really underrated. He made McCallum look slow in the first fight. He just about won a razor thin rematch to. I think he might have caused Nunn major problems to, if Nunn had not landed that once in a life time great shot.

 

He didint say great, he said pure, meaning thats all they do. And being sloppy means nothing, boxing is what he does, nothing else.

Pure boxer = someone who relies on boxing skills.

Sloppy defence = someone without well-rounded boxing skills, therefore not a pure boxer.

 

Calzaghe is a pure boxer because he relies on nothing other than his boxing skills to fight. Thats as simple as i can put it. He is not a great example because he is not a great fighter, but sloppiness has nothing to do with it. You can continue to pick him apart since you don't like him, but theres no dispute as to what he is.
