Why did nobody question Hatton's P4P cobblers?

    • Sky - Latched onto Hatton's verbal diahorrea and used it to promote the fight.
    • British Press - Even Colin Hart apparently joined in. He doesn't mince in words in his column today though.
    • Boxing Monthly - I haven't seen the last issue but I'm sure someone posted on here that they were going along with Hatton's delusions.
Why didn't anyone challenge Hatton on this? Even throughout all the press conferences not once did someone challenge Hatton. Why?

All trying to promote the fight they all make a bit of money off it. That the only reason i could see it being other than that it was utter ****.

Hart said on Sky News Hatton and Pac were fighting for the P4P title although i think not 100% sure but he said pac would win.

Sky were trying to promote a fight, the British Press are pitching to the layman who doesn't care but the fact Boxing Monthly went with it as well was a bit of a shock.

They're following Hatton's lead, that stuff isn't aimed at us, it's aimed at football supporters who'd never dream of watching anybody else but Hatton.

It was irritating, but boxing is a business and it pays to sell this kind of hype to the casual boxing fans, who have all the money.

Any journalist who went to a press conference and called Hatton out over this would be a bloody moron, it's about making as much cash for everyone involved by making the fight seem as big as possible.

I'm sure it would have been super-awesome for somebody to point out that they were only fighting for Hatton's fringe LWW belt, but I'll say it again -

    Boxing is a business.

What have Ricky Hatton and Gary Glitter got in common?

They both went down for trying to hammer small phillipinos in the ring

The about being p4p champion was the reason I really enjoyed seeing him get battered. I know he was just trying to build his fight up but the guy is a total ****.

If he was alone in this type of behaviour I'd understand the bile

    But they all do it

Joe will brag about going to the States and beating Rjj despite having committed to print the fact he thought he was shot

Self-promotion is the name of the game

You must either be young or mighty naive to be so sensitive to it

You must agree though that Hatton went over the top with all this stuff, he was relentless, every time he opened his mouth.

Without a doubt, and of course he was totally wrong in what he was saying

I just don't fret about it, personally... it's what fighters do

Thing is I have a very limited set of things to say myself, if I were interviewed ten times a day I'd repeat the same **** over and over

Bit like Scurla and Betty do around here

I did not mind Joe fighting RJJ. Joe had won a few good tests and that fight was his finale. The win meant nothing but dollars and I can not remember Joe banging on about how great his achievment would be apart from adding a nice name to his record.

Hatton and fans seemed to genuinly believe he could become p4p number one and went far over the top with the mad statement. I do not mind him trying to build the fight but the talk was at ****** strength.

I'm constantly bemused by statements like these.

If you mean anybody on here, then I missed it.

I'm sure some of you imagine all this pro-Hatton hyperbole that you claim to be reacting against.

There wasn't one single peson on this forum that bought into that P4P talk, even Rickys biggest fans.
The sky presenters in particular made me cringe everytime they used the expression.
