By the time Jackson came along, Sullivan was shot. He never really ducked him. Even Jackson accepted that Sullivan didnt really have the opportunity to fight him. Corbett was the one that ducked Jackson, after their 60 rnd draw.
Uhhhh, right... 90%???? Talk about revisionist history. I seem to remember this little war that was fought fifty years earlier where a major component was the freedom of black men and women...
Obviously, it's hard to produce an exact number, but where did those riots after Johnson-Jeffries come from?
Jesus Christ, you're dutch, kid. Go pontificate on your nations history of collaboration, American race relations are far too intricate and complicated for you to comprehend. As for being "racist pieces of ****", that just goes to show your ignorance. Nowhere near 90% were what you say, and being racist in those times does not make you a piece of **** by default, it was a sign of the times. Because every black fighter is John Lester Johnson and Dempsey never improved as a fighter. Haha that's ridiculous. Didn't Dempsey beat the **** out of Godfrey in sparring?
Dempsey sparred with Johnson again. Jwasnt this scared racist man that people made him out to be Besides how do u know dempsey never fought another black fighter? His record is incomplete. After he met kearns, ofcourse he didnt fight another black, Kearns didnt want him to because of the whole reputation thing so u think just becuase one black man managed to crack his ribs, every black man could do so? How utterly ridicoulus.
http://www.cyberboxingzone.com/boxing/dempsey.htm Its amazing. Dempsey was so scared of Johsnon that he got in the ring with him again in a sparring match. I bet jack must have been shaking with fear when he saw the sight of a black man in a ring.
Since when is every black fighter the same? Dempsey went on to beat far better and more dangerous fighters than Johnson.
Sorry, but i don't feel guilty about something my great-great-great ancestors have done. Dutch slave trading and exploitation all happened before America as you know it even existed, so don't give me this "it's too complicated for you to comprehend". This is bull****. Burning random people alive for being "witches" was a sign of a certain time also, that doesn't make them anything less than ****ing ******s. Human beings are stupid most of them time; for the last several thousands of years, we've seriously believed in imaginary friends and prayed to them. There is no excuse for treating black men as "lesser" humans, denying them access to restaurants, putting them in a separate place in busses, etc. Mind you, this was still going on FIFTY years after Dempsey fought. So let's not pretend it wasn't happening. It was a very convenient excuse for white fighters to duck half of the competition yet still call themselves "World Champion", though. "Champion of the Racist World" would've been a better belt.
It's true. Bill Tate and George Godfrey were actually Italian, a fact you'll rarely hear today's PC-obsessed boxing apologists mention.
Another poorly-known fact was that Sam McVey, a Dempsey sparring partner for the 1920 defense against Billy Miske, was actually Irish. Obviously you should be able to conclude that just based on his name, but some so-called "historians" simply overlook the obvious in favor of their own biases. This content is protected "Aye, 'tis true laddie, a son of the Emerald Isle I be, right and surely!"
Anyway - Anyone know what, if any, concessions Dempsey made to such horrible injuries? Did he box on the move for example? Did he run? Or did he dig in? Did he shut down his offence?
