I suggest you hunt down Calzaghe's comments on RJJ and then decide who was ducking who. The idea that Roy Jones was ducking some obscure WBO belt holder from Wales is a bit laughable.
Here is another piece of reality for you: Roy never beat a undisputed, unified, or linear champion in his whole career. He is a complete fraud. A Glass Jawed joke and one of the worst cherry pickers in the history of the sport.
Back then neither man had any interest in fighting abroad. You could understand Jones point because of the robbery in Korea. That being said DM was making easy change at home fighting tin cans. Neither man was interested but it was abudantly clear Jones was the superior talent who fought the better fighters.
Jones did not duck Calzaghe. Roy was too busy avoiding Dariuz Michiaelzewski at the time. Instead Roy chose to fight Richard Frazier, famous for being a NYC cop.
Nobody here knew who the hell Calzaghe was. To get those fights he would have had to come to the U.S. for a couple of fights or at least fought a couple fighters of note but that didn't happen till later on!
Bull**** grab a copy of the full broadcast of Rjj vs Lou Devalle, HBO indicated that Jones was in charge of his contract and he was basicly able to pick and choose who he wanted to fight, The billed that as the contract from hell. Hopkins, well he wanted money and if you have actually followed Bhops career he was out for the big money fights for the longest he wanted DLH Trinidad Vargas he called those guys out cus that is where the money is. He didnt want nothing to do with Joe (Not out of fear) until Joe made a name for himself get ****ing real.
True, Hatton came to the states for a high profile fight before he got the Mayweather fight. If Calzaghe had wanted Roy or B-hop earlier he should have done the same thing! You would have thought he would have wanted to fight Lacy in the U.S. but that was already 2006 anyway!
Well Calzaghe & Hopkins actually came to an agreement in 2002, then the next day Hopkins call back & asked for twice as much money.
