It looks like espn was able to get Vargas to step in for the injured Monte Barrett. I have not seen Vargas fight as a pro but I remember him being a good amateur. Who is going to take this one?

Good match up between two undefeated prospects. I would have liked to see Johnson vs. Barrett more, but that is life. I will be rooting for Johnson.

Here is a vid of Vargas as a pro:

I am very much looking forward to this fight. Very interesting match-up. I'm not quite sold on Kingpin, yet.

  5. Vargas is far from bum status at this moment. He has fought soft competition, but his promoter STARBOXING kept getting big fights for Vinny Maddelone (a crowd pleaser). Vargas, like his opponent KINGPIN (another Starboxing fighter) had to play second fiddle to Vinny. Good solid matchup for both, a easy win for KINGPIN though. I predict a KO within 4-6 rounds.

I'm excited about this. I'm actually a bit suprised Vargas took this fight. Its a huge step up for him here.

In the fight I hope Vargas can push Johnson enough to make him throw alot more than just his jab. If he can get away with it he will just settle in a strafe away with it all night long. Vargas is definitely gonna have to work well inside in this 1.

    weigh ins
    Kevin Johnson 246
    Devin Vargas 225.75

This weight is a career high for Johnson. I wonder if he didn't take this fight seriously. This could be trouble because Vargas came in seven pounds lighter than his last fight which is a sign that he is in condition for this fight. This is shaping up to be an interesting bout.

I am taking Vargas on points. I think he is going to out hustle him down the stretch. Terry Smith had a similar style to Vargas and he almost beat Johnson last year. I think the younger, lighter, active, Vargas will be able to pull away late.

    Vargas UD10 Johnson

I am totally pissed at Kevin for showing up at a career high. This is rediculous. However, I still see him winning this one. Johnson SD.:bbb

you know the guy? yeah from that video he looks like an average joe from an athletic standpoint. not that fast, not much power. he obviously looks like he knows the sport of boxing and fights pretty smart, but like you say it looks as if he should work on adding muscle/ conditioning to see if it can help with either the power or the speed.

looks like kj points win with the faster hands

I'd like to see this fight tonight but my sister is graduating from high school so I may be able to catch a little of it after her graduation, but that's terrible Johnson showed up at a high weight, and he was initially training for Monte Barrett too.

I expect Johnson to win but it is not good coming in at a career high.

Needless to say I am going to watch this fight tonight.

I want to see this fight so bad, but I have to work tonight. A bunch of my friends are going to watch it, but those assholes aren't going to tape it for me.

Man this has to be a dream night for ya. Johnson vs Vargas in the war to settle the score and a 90s HW also ran Bruce Seldon on the card.

Can you say card of the year?
