2 million to fight an "unknown" fighter.....then asking for 4 million the next day? I mean I'm not accusing anyone of anything because we haven't got all the facts but does that make sense?

Also I recall prior to joe many a world class fighter in eubank and benn that never fought the best i.e. Rjj and b-hop. That is a shame would have been some excellent fights

Actually it makes perfect sense: Hopkins would be the draw so he would want the lion's share.

^ I don't think it's fair to say anyone ducked out until we know fully well why.

Yes UP I get what your saying but as it the case that the purse was split more in favor of calzaghe than for b-hop?

I have never said either ducked either, just pointing out that it's not unreasonable that Hopkins would want the much larger portion of money. I'm with you in that we will never really know, but knowing Hopkins' negotiation style, I lean towards it not being a duck.

wow , you're ******ed. I am assuming you're just some 21 year old blind Calzaghe fan, not really a fan of the sport.

"Ducking" is very difficult to define and often implies something that isn't there - usually fear one the part of a fighter.

I don't think any of these 3 fighters are feared of the other at all. BUT what must be pointed out is this: Calzaghe gets the most heat for not facing the other 2 but it is HOPKINS who pulled out of a fight with Joe Calzaghe. It can be dressed how anyone sees fit, but Joe signed to fight a prime Nard and BHop pulled out. Make of it what you will, but if anyone deserves heat for Hopkins Calzaghe not happening earlier it is only reasonable that the fighter who pulled out gets it: X.

To some it up Rico all you have to do is look at the highlight reels of both fighters in their prime. RJJ's is far more entertaining than that of Calzaghe. I'm pretty sure history is going to rate Jones way higher than Calzaghe. Not saying Calzaghe is not a hall of famer, but in terms of career accomplishments and pure entertainment there is no comparison, RJJ wins this by a landslide.

To call RJJ a "glass jawed joke" is a fine example of your stupidity as a human being and general failure in this game of life. I look forward to reading about your achievements in the next publication of the Darwin Awards. :good

    LETS BE REAL....

Calzaghe was regarded as an average champion till 2005...even Sven Otke was ranked higher than Joe in the Supermiddle division.

No one would have cared to see a Joe vs Hopkins or Joe vs Jones fight....he wasnt even a credible champion till he ofught Lacy.

he knew that and hide behind a minor WBO belt for a long time.

If he did what Hatton did retain keep his title and move up to light Heavy and beat a a top 5 challenger (aka Glen Johnson etc) and forced a fight with Jones it would be acceptable.

He didnt he opted to milk his title...he used to claim he was scared to fly....

like Joe said in his book

"why should i go over there and fight Jones,,,Id want the crown jules for that"

That's why both Borenard and Roy fought a list of turds who's names most can't even remember, right?

I believe Roid fought a nightwatchman at one point.

You can't. But you can choose to never pursue a fight with them. Hatton went up to 147, won a title there in the USA, publicly forced the issue to get his fight with Floyd. Calzaghe never ever lifted a finger to do likewise re Jones for the six years 1997-2003. This fact is beyond dispute, even for you. :D

I think Calzaghe would have always found it difficult to get those fights until after he destroyed Lacy. RJJ and Hopkins were the ones who wouldn't fight Calzaghe, because they didn't see him as a big enough name. And they were correct, he didn't become big until 2006.
