Did you just compare Hatton and Calzaghe in a risk/reward scenario?. What belt does calzaghe get a shot at, at LH in 98 after his second title fight at SMW? DM or Roy Jones Jr?. No Collazo for him. No JLC in the P4P rankings for him. Telasco and Harding werent that highly rated. Hatton got the shot because he brought beacoup money and little risk, compared to what the alternatives where. You should know this, and i think you do. (For Floyd, not Pac).
In all fairness, you're wrong. Hatton had beaten Tszyu and knocked out Castillo when he was chasing Floyd. Calzaghe had beaten Richie Woodhall and Charles Brewer when he should have been chasing Jones. There's no way Jones viewed Calzaghe as a bigger threat at that time.
So he did chase a fight with Jones then???? You guys are ****ing bizarre, seriously. A simple, concrete, black and white, absolutely undeniable fact is presented to you: Joe Calzaghe never pursued a fight with Roy Jones in all the time they were champions in neighbouring weight divisions. Yet your brain refuses to acknowledge this, even though it is so obviously absolutely true. This syndrome should be studied!
No-one was ducking but Calzaghe should have headed to the states and forced the fight. From 1997-early, mid 2000's RJJ and Hopkins fought a few guys that shouldn't have even been in the ring with them. If Joe tried he could have got into one of those spots.
Such a simple and obvious truth. Only in this forum could people go to the effort of writing pages and pages trying to deny it. So strange.
If another fighter did that (like Calzaghe for instance) he would be ripped a new ******* on this board.
http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=140005&page=2 Clear as day But I don't know if he ducked Hopkins.
No, i'm not. You did say that. Yes he had 1 P4P fighter in his division that Warren got to come to his home base. And the other that was struggling, but was the perfect way to Floyd. Those fights are three years apart mate. In 03 Roy was fighting for the HW belt and when he came back down, they all said he was done. And in 00 he was asked to come to the Woodhall fight for talks about a Calzaghe fight at by Maloney, who was brought in by Warren because he had HBO's ear. Roy declined(And quite rightly, who was Calzaghe)
Yawn. If I said Enzo had a 'tache you would vomit all over your keyboard in your frenzy to batter out eight pages about how his face was as smooth and hairless a newborn baby's arse. One question only required for this, and I've made it a yes or no so it is as simple as it can possibly be, a one-word answer type of deal: Did Joe Calzaghe actively pursue a fight with Roy Jones at any time between 1997 and 2003? Sorry, 1998-2002?
Even though you ignore my questions but expect answers to your own, i will actually answer. And without the vile comments that you have made your own. Yes. But there was no reason for Roy to accept. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/boxing/news/2000/11/22/calzaghe_jones_ap/
