Can the British fight fans clue me in on why they never fought? Is it true that Hatton hated Witter so much that he didn't even want to give him a payday, or was Witter just too high-risk, low reward? It seems almost impossible for two world champ domestic rivals to never have a showdown.

i know who id rather be. still the sad fact for witter is that even after hatton has been ko'd and finsihed in many peoples eyes hes still his biggest fight and payday in his career.

The man Hatton refused to fight for over a decade because he would have upset Hattons finely balanced applecart. Simple case of styles here. Witter had the style to punish Hatton as severely as Pac did. Warren and team Hatton knew this. Hence why they refused to fight him even though they were both promoted by SN. Hatton established himself as the best man at 140lbs in the World. British fans didnt even know if he was the best in Britain.

In retrospect, not fighting Witter was a smart move by Hatton. He would have been a tricky fight stylistically, and he brought nothing to the table financially.

 

so if witter is so good, why did he take so long to win a world title and then lose it so quickly in a pathetic performance against a relatively green fighter?

Around 90% of Hattons opponents never brought anything to the table financially. Hattons was a VERY shrewdly matched career with the right fights occuring at the right time. Nothing more or less.
