The catchweight part of the floyd marquez fight seems unfair to me

Didn't they have a weight clause or something that stipulated him to do that?

I know what you are trying to get to, why would someone cut extra weight?

If Pac was weigh 147 on the spot, he's only going to gain a pound. It's like he cut weight so he's not going to gain any extra as if he were to not cut.

Like, if Pac didn't cut, he wouldn't weigh 150+. He's going to weigh that 148/149.

Also gotta take for example Pac looks ******edly shreded when he cuts a bit of weight so they might of wanted him to look really good for the weigh in.

It's not that, it was his skills.

He was completely fine size wise. Well not compared to the Williams/Margos of the division.

I can see what you're saying but I think it disadvantages a fighter more having to loose a lot of weight than having to gain some, so I think it's fair enough that the bigger fighter doesn't have to loose as much as the smaller guy has to gain - even without bringing JMM calling Floyd out into the equation.

if the fight is at 143, jmm could have got a pretty good concession. remember he called floyd out and even at 147, this is a win-win fight for him, unless he got battered badly. if he lose, he lose to the bigger man but not necessarily the better fighter but if he wins, all the props in the world.

    Size and weight are different.

Gatti weighed more a few times at 140 than Joshua Clottey did against Judah but Clottey is way bigger.

Although weight is somewhat of a factor, IE someone being able to hustle people around but not that much. Someone can be stronger but smaller in size and weight.

Where weight is a big factor is heavyweights. IE Lewis leaning on Tyson consistantly.

Alot more people would give JMM more than a fair chance to pull an upset if it were at 140 lbs.....but whats done and done.......

.....btw, I've read that the fight is contracted for 144 lbs, which means JMM will go up 9 lbs, and Mayweather down 3......
.....does'nt seem fair, but hey......what better way to shock the world than with odds at every concievable angle stacked against you!

    JMM SHOCK THE WORLD!

I think 143 is not that unfair, considering Floyd has been out a while and will probably have to work that extra bit harder to get down there.

I love how these fights, which were unimaginable not too long ago, are happening all-of-a-sudden.

Remember when people trashed the Oscar-Pacquiao when it was first announced.
Turned out to be a god send for the sport, with fights like Mayweather-Marquez, Hatton-Pacquiao being made because of it.

Hope to see more great little guys testing themselves in higher weight classes. Darchinyan-PacMan would be crazy

Marquez is one unlucky SOB. He is fighting a rusty Floyd and if he wins, it won't count to anything. And if he loses, his rematch with Pac is off.

Since this thread has been bumped, figured I'd just agree with this.

Halfway between their weights would be 141. But since cutting is harder then gaining, 143 seems fine.

Then add PBF's inactivity and being the one who was called out...

Are we talking about the same Floyd??? I don't really have all the numbers. But I know he is taller and have longer reach than Cotto. :deal.
And lets not forget JMM did his last two fights at 135lbs ( Didn't look that easy) but March 15, 2008 he was fighting at 13olbs. I just dont see a 35y/o boxer gaining 17lbs pounds of muscle in 17 months.

So what if he is taller and has a longer reach? Cotto is still bigger than him. :patsch
