i watched Tito-De La Hoya for the first time today.

De La Hoya was just past his prime when i started following boxing so i have never seen his best but this night was it.

De La Hoya was a warrior going into this fight but he proved everyone wrong.

Round 1: De La Hoya comes out dancing makes Tito miss its like Ali vs Liston 1. Oscar throws his first punch 1:12 into the round and he lands it. Tito hardly lands and Oscar controlls the tempo. Oscar controlls the ring gets into his rythem and is the ring general he pushes Tito back without throwing a punch near the end of the round. Willie Pep claimed to have won around without landing a punch, Oscar nearly did it.
    Oscar 10-9

Round 2: Oscar is dancing again. His defence is magnificent. It makes me sit up and take notice his feetwork is mesmerising like that of Peps. He really enthralls me in his boxing. He is in and out so quick landing his combinations and frustrating Tito.
    Oscar 10-9

Round 3: More of the same great stuff moving brillaintly and controlling the ring. It now becomes apparant the Oscar is landing and throwing more than Tito and he is really domianting him.
    Oscar 10-9

Round 4: Oscar takes afew hits here as he gets lazy. Tito lands the better punches in this round but Oscar lands more and controlls the ring better and his defence is alot better than Titos aggresion. This is a close round but i think Oscars defence and ring generalship nick it for him.
    Oscar 10-9

Round 5: Oscar corrects the mistakes of the last round and really turns on the class. Its oozing out of every pore of his body. His footwork is what is doing it for him it is sublime.
    Oscar 10-9

Round 6: More of the same brillaint stuff. Oscar is starting to use his jab to set up right hands and his right hand is becoming a more and more potent weapon
    Oscar 10-9

Round 7: Oscar is winning this fight he uses his right hand and his left hook superbly. Im running out of adjectives to describe Oscar.
    Oscar 10-9

Round 8: Brilliant work here he uses the jab to set up the right pefectly Tito dosent seeem to know what to do and is running out of ideas.
    Oscar 10-9

Round 9: People say Oscar starts running this round i dont see it he is popping out his jab and landing on Tito who only gets the occasional shot. Oscar controlls the ring with great defence which is way better than Titos supposedly 'effective aggresion'. But it depends what you like aggresion and big ooccasional shots or defence and consistent jab work.
    Oscar 10-9

Round 10: Oscar again supposedly runs but he works the jab again and lands it on Tito far too often for Tito to get settled. Oscars defence wins him the round again.
    Oscar 10-9

Round 11: Oscar does start to run here and does nothing of note except a last 30 second flurry and a big left hook to get off the ropes. Tito lands well and finally starts penetrating the defence.
    Tito 10-9

Round 12: Oscar does nothing but move. Tito lands decent shots and wins the round.
    Tito 10-9

Overview: Oscar was brillaint he worked a plan and kept too it. He gave away the last 2 rounds but didnt he deserve it after 10 rounds of great boxing before that. Also other fighters coast and they never get taken upp for it.

118-110 Oscar you may disagree but i score heavily in favour of boxing and defence

The only clear round Tito won before round 10 was round 4. I usually have oscar up 7 rounds to 2 or 8 rounds to 1 after 9 rounds. Its a myth tito won the 9th round against oscar.

    My usual scorecard is

    1. Oscar
    2. Oscar
    3. Oscar
    4. Tito
    5. Oscar
    6. Oscar
    7. Oscar
    8. Oscar
    9. Oscar
    10. Tito
    11. Tito
    12. Tito

    116-112 Oscar

Oscar movement and footwork were never better than this fight. His legs were peak.

I thought Oscar won, but GPater, just want to say, we don't use the word great when we talk of Oscar.

Haha, not a cue for an argument SQ

Thats my scorecards as well. Exact same rounds as well. Hagler-Leonard is a fight thats rather split with most siding with Leonard. While De La Hoya-Trinidad was also controversial, hardly anyone thought Trinidad won the fight.

Apart from the fans, I have read the opinion of fighters, journalists and other people in boxing, and it's overwhelming for De La Hoya with those observers.

Quick note on De La Hoya's style in this fight. He moved extremely well on the balls on his feet, and changed direction. His defense for Trinidad's oncoming offense was strictly a high guard. IMO, he was far too rigid and straight up and down. When Hopkins fought Trinidad and forced the fight, against the ropes, etc, he was constantly bobbing and weaving and twisting himself to avoid Trinidad's punches.
