and beyond that, he's better then good, but he's just not great right now, but realistically it's only 1 thing he needs to work on, that punch output past the 9th round, i mean it works for him....he's always up on the cards till that point, so he can just cruise and still win, but it creates no excitement, then u just fill unfulfilled cuzz it overlaps how great he was doing in the beginning of the fight

but he is still a work in progress, and theres plenty of time to correct this problem, and even with this problem he's still better then alot of the guys in the sport

Pavlik has the will and focus of a champion. I think that was shown against Taylor. Tarver beat a version of Roy Jones that was in decline and he basically made a living off one punch against Jones. What's ironic about Tarver is he said Roy was just making excuses but when he lost a large amount of weight for Hopkins he got his ass whipped. The guy's ego is 10x as great as compared to how good he actually is.

Pavlik hasnt really shown the focus of a champ. In the first Taylor he showed heart by getting up but him finishing him had more to do with Taylor being tired. In the second fight he got out boxed and won again when Taylor faded again by winning the 12th. The point Pavilk hasnt shown a damn thing since getting that belt.

It's nothing to do with physical conditioning!!! Let me make that clear. It's something mental (ex. nerves) that gets to them and weakens them physically. They both lose focus the longer the fight goes. It's hard to imagine losing focus when the other guy is trying to take you're head off, but they just do not respond well to it.

Maybe they're just not of the mold of having a killer instinct that might otherwise carry them through the later rounds on adrenaline if nothing else.

Chad is only 26 yrs old, I know. Still, as we have seen with Taylor, it seems no matter what they try, this problem stays with them. Chad beat Tarver and did what he was supposed to do, but he did nothing to suggest he could ever beat Joe Calzaghe or Bernard Hopkins.

I wish Chad could somehow magically fix his "problem" just as I do with Jermaine because they are both very naturally gifted but I doubt it will happen. The last ditch effort would be to see a sports psychologist and see if anything can be done for his focus. The thing is though, that when it comes to killer instinct, you either have it or you don't. If you don't, you tend not to be all that exciting. At least not exciting enough to lure a Legend out of retirement!

Chad has made some improvements in technique, but Jermaine did too after he got stopped by KP and in the end it did not help!

Now after tonight, it can unequivocally be concluded that anyone who says Joe Calzaghe or Bernard Hopkins is ducking Chad Dawson is an idiot.

I am not hating on Chad here, just calling it like I see it. I like him and hope I am proven wrong!

Dawson is a bit better than Jermain Taylor ... he's better defensively and with his movement in the ring ... I think the problem with Dawson is he doesn't sit on his punches ... if he did he would have more knockouts ... but as far as boxing ability he's far better than Jermain Taylor.

You're an idiot, Dawson is undefeated, Taylor isn't. Dawson is way more skilled than Taylor and more consistent despite both sharing similar flaws. Dawson has that killer instinct, did you see the fights against Harding and Adamek?

I think this is a pretty good comparison. :good

I will say, however, that Taylor has 10x the heart that Dawson does. After the Pavlik KO, he made an immediate rematch and stepped up to fight Hopkins a second time as well.

On the other hand, if you even mention Diaconu or Cloud to Dawson, he probably would put his fingers in his ears and go "mmmmmmmmm!"

They both seem to have issues with tiring in the late rounds of their fights, but it might be more of a problem for Taylor. Not sure yet.

Plus the fact that he can not seem to visibly hurt his opponents with all those combinations means he will be a borderline A-level champion.

Taylor should just retire. I have been saying this right after he was beat down ny Pavlik. Frustrating to watch, he ought to join Lacy in the retirement center.

Just sad to see Taylor fall apart like he does. I mean he's a great guy but you got a point cause I don't wanna see him fade again, and then get seriously hurt.
