Hey, relax. I wasn't having a go at GPater but there is a certain amount of hypocrisy in how Minter and Hopkins have been deal with over saying the exact same thing.
its just banter serves me right i always call him an old raving loony anyway. he says he is at work but hes really at the OAP hoose it was more accepted back then (you should know eh) the worlds more PC
It was more acceptable then, but Hopkins still gets a free ride for it in these supposedly more enlightened times.
there was abit of furore about it. IMO it was said in abit of jest really i think him and Calzaghe knew he was going to say it or it was to sell the fight
I'm not trying to defend Minter but its worth pointing out that the comment was never caught on tape or film and Minter always denied making it. Given some of the "support" he had at that time it wouldn't surprise me if he did say it but I don't think it was ever proved or admitted.
Hes got an few pages in this issue of Boxing Monthly and he doesn't regret saying it.He admits it infact
Is that right? He denied it at the time and I'm pretty sure its not mentioned in his autobiography...
it says... When Marvin finally came over to England for a press conference,I offered him my hand to shake and he made a remark about not touching me.A guy behind me made a comment about me 'not going to lose the title to a black man' and stupidly, without thinking,I repeated it. He goes on to say it forgotten etc and they still speak
Minter never denied saying it, he claimed: "it was my mouth moving before my brain was in gear". The biggest problem with the comment was that it got linked to the trouble that flared up after Minter got stopped.
Thats fair enough, I read an interview at the time where he denied it but he's obviously decided to come clean.
