Well, there wasn't the "typical" type of trash talk.

But I felt like Hatton was trying to convince himself more than anything and some of it was disrespectful as well as ultimately very wrong.

"He's not the hardest to find". In essence he's saying Manny's defence is **** which is CLEARLY not the case. Hatton landed one right hand and Manny has shown excellent lateral movement and head movement lately.

He completely discredited his win over De La Hoya. He sounded like some of the chimps on here with his after the event analysis! ;)

Again, not of that is "shock horror" disrespectful, its just a boxers pre-fight opinion.

I still don't think that win is all some people crack it up to be but it has to be said that Diaz, Oscar and Hatton is a good set of wins over 130lbs.

Diaz is a punchbag but I'm still not convinced Hoya was any different to the one Mayweather laboured over. To me it was not so much weight as the performance of each respective opponent. Pacquiao was simply too quick at this stage of his career, too good of a footwork. Hoya could not even comprehend where Pacquiao was nevermind try to pull the trigger on a punch. Everytime he thought about doing something the brain was faster than the body and Pac popped him with 5 shots before he's even planted his feet. Mayweather on the otherhand backpeddaled and threw potshots. Pac didn't let him into the fight, Mayweather did.

And Hatton is Hatton. Excellent win. But you could also say the exact same thing that Hatton said in the buildup. In hindsight. In hindsight Hatton looked like a club fighter. Pac shouldn't get credit. In hindsight Hoya looked crap. etc.

I don't discredit Pac for taking the Oscar fight but you still have to use "hindsight" when trying to evaluate how good a win it was. As you say Diaz is a punchbag but at least the Hatton win gives those other 2 wins more weight.

Whatever you think of Hatton, he was 'the man', ranked number 1 at 140 and Pac demolished him. Neither Oscar or Diaz was close to being similar to that at 135 or 147.

you are comparing arguably two of the best weight divisions against possibly the weakest

It depends how people use hindsight.

People seem to think the performance of an individual fighter is not interlinked with his opponent. It can not be affected by styles and the performance of the opponent, apparently.

For that reason if somebody is demolished it is automatically reasoned that the fault lies with the loser rather than credit for the winner. Certainly I've seen far more discredit than credit.

WHAT? I'm saying Diaz was nowhere near the best lightweight in the world and Oscar wasn't even fighting as welterweight when he fough Pac. Pacs win at 140 is more impressive at that weight than either of the other 2 wins.

BTW 140 is far from the weakest division out there and fighters are leaving 135 in droves at the moment.

paulie malignaggi as the top contender, weakest division and after may 2nd it was the most overrated division also

everyone is leaving 135 because the grass is a lot greener at 140

Are you saying you think styles make fights? Gee! I think you may have stumbled across something there!!!;)

Thats probably due to most people picked Oscar and were looking for a "reason" they were wrong and the fact Oscar did look truly awful that night. Every time I mention that fight I go out of my way to say what an impressive performance it was by Pac but Oscar was clearly below par for one reason or another.

So all these "destroyers" that Hatton has been supposedly ducking for years like Torres, Holt and Bradley etc were all **** in reality?

Below par compared to his prime, indeed.

Compared to the version that took 4 rounds off the p4p #1 incumbent at the time...I'd take some convincing.

If a guy is backpedalling, fighting off the ropes and generally throwing single shots of course it is going to let a slower technical pressure fighter like De La Hoya that relies on his jab getting off because he pinned him on the ropes and was an easier target even if it was debateable whether a lot landed. Pac was in the middle of the ring. For every shot Mayweather landed Pacquiao landed 5 or 6 and was also more elusive due to the increased speed difference.

Pac to me deserves a lot more credit for being the only guy to completely outclass De La Hoya and stop him, against a version I wouldn't consider dissimilar to the one another elite had somewhat of a struggle with (tho the SD was bull****).
