Dude comparing their records like that is unfair. Boxers today aren't like the boxers in the old days. Boxers in the old era fight 2 or 3 times a day/week. Those were common in their days. Do you see a boxer today that fights that many times in a month? And FYI There were boxers who fought more than 10 times in a month span. IF Pac lived in that era and IF he was poor then he would most probably fight as much as he can to earn money.
Armstrong in under 12 months held the WORLD Featherweight, Lightweight, and Welterweight titles (that's 3 of the original 8 weight classes). And he did all of this whilst scarcely ever weighing above the Lightweight limit. Pac's got a ways to go before reaching Armstrong status.
Pac needs to fight Marquez for the world lightweight title, just like they did for the featherweight and super featherweight world titles.
I know Armstrong is greater than Pac by a mile. But do you think he would equal or supersedes Pac's accomplishment against those fighters he beat like MAB, Morales, Marquez, Hatton & DLH? Had he fought in Pac's era?
The majority of the fighters he beat in his title quests were better than the above, and larger in comparison as well.
Pac is isn't even close to acheiving what Armstrong has because of a few reasons. Both fighters were legitimate number 1 fighters at Featherweight but the similarity ends there. Armstrong jumped from Featherweight to Welterweight to defeat Barney Ross for the World Welterweight who was the best at the weight. Pac beat Hatton who was similar in size to Ross but was not nearly as good. He also beat De La Hoya in what was Oscar's last pro fight. Armstrong went back down and fought for the World Lightweight title against Lou Ambers who was the best Lightweight in the world. He then beat him a second time but was robbed in that fight. Pac beat David Diaz who is for a piece of the Lightweight title. Diaz is nowhere near the class of Ambers. Armstrong beat Ceferino Garcia for a piece of the Middleweight crown but was robbed in that fight and not awarded the belt. Armstrong also holds the record for most successful defenses of the Welterweight crown.
You know why? Because a single win can only give them 3 days of food. Come to think what quality of boxer he encounter then when everyone can become a boxer just to survive for a day.
Barney Ross, Lou Ambers, Sammy Angott, Baby Arizmendi, Chalky Wright, Tippy Larkin, Willie Joyce, Bummy Davis, Lew Jenkins, Pedro Montanez, Petey Sarron, Benny Bass, Frankie Klick, Mike Belloise, Juan Zurita, Midget Wolgast, etc. are all better than Hatton, and the majority of them (aside from a few who were toward the end of their careers like Bass, Sarron, and a few more) were better wins than the corpse of De La Hoya that Pac annihilated. Most of them are on the same level as the 3 Mexicans, guys like Ross, Ambers, Angott, and Arizmendi (at least) being clearly better in my view.
I think Armstrong more or less DID do that.... I dont think Pac or anyone else that will ever be born will simultaneously hold 3 division titles (namely the FWT, LWT & WWT titles) the way Armstrong did. :thumbsup
