:good Well said. Even though I can't stand Haye and I hope he gets KO'd, I have to tip my hat to his success at getting a title shot without having fought anyone.

Lets see if you still feel that way after Wlad knocks him out..I sure that Haye will then became the third best heavyweight ever and no other person outside of your gods Wladdy and Vitilly could beat him...

You have to keep in mind that the vast number of the posters here are the younger bunch...Dropping names like Cooney is pushing it for them, its fighters and fights that happened before they were born. That is the reason for the classic part of the site. All they know is what happened 5 or 10 years ago.

True, however I am from the "younger bunch". Jerry Cooney was before my time. Names being dropped our Hatton, Haye, waldo, VK, Calzaghe and I just feel Jerry Cooney and numerous others our way more "overrated, overhyped frauds" and this guy is asking about in all the history of boxing.

For them that is the history of boxing..Its like asking a 35 year old rap fan to name the greatest rapper or rap song and they will say Scarface then a 20 year old will say who is that, and say that Lil Wanye is the the greatest rapper.

If your not around to hear and or see the hype then how could that fighter be overhyped or overrated??? Many here dont know that ABC run primetime air of Cooney and talked about how great his chances of winning were, and how he would be so great for boxing..In fact Im sure that most here dont even know that ABC use to run prime time boxing shows like that. Much like HBO 24/7.

"Beyond the Glory - Larry Holmes" documents all of the prefight build up and hype that mainstream media, ABC like you said, were giving Cooney. I know that exceeded anything I have seen in my lifetime for someone being so hyped and not succeeding. But who knows maybe there is a more extreme case out there... I'd like to learn about it.

If Calzaghe is that overhyped, Hopkins is certainly more overhyped, since he lost to him.
