God knows we've spent enough time debating a Pavlik/Abraham fight, and it seems inevitable that both will move up before to long. Let's see if we can find some common ground. Who can they beat at 168? We already know they can both beat Miranda, Zuniga, and others on that level. We also know that KP can beat JT, since their rematch was only 2 pounds under the SMW limit. Andrade and Bika are a handful for anybody. Neither is hard to find. Arthur might end up with some 10-8 rounds that allowed him to take a decision. Pavlik could probably outbox either one, but outboxing people is really not Pavlik's forte'. At some point he'd probably declare war, and then we'd get some serious fireworks, but scoring a KO or TKO over either guy is no easy task. I think both can beat Froch, but for different reasons. Arthur would beat him because is so damn easy to hit. Pavlik would beat him because styles make fights, and Froch is exactly the kind of fighter that makes KP look like a monster; agressive, poor defense, low guard, poor footwork, slow hands and feet, et. The other day we had a thread about Pavlik/Bute, and I was surprised by how many people picked KP. PAY ATTENTION! The best southpaw on Pavlik's record to date is the 2006 version of Bronco McKart. Bute is not only a southpaw, he also has very good footwork, and that spells problems for KP. Bute is capable of making AA chase him, and that's never good for Arthur. In my opinion Kessler would score a WIDE ud over Arthur. The reasons should be obvious. Because styles do make fights, Pavlik/Kessler is a fantastic match up. Some posters disagree with me, but this one pivots around the jabbing contest. Pavlik already went jab for jab with JT twice. Kessler has a fantastic jab. Whoever wins the jabbing contest, which I think is inevitable, controls the fight. Thought? Opinions?
Alot of good talent @ 168lbs, That you can make a case for. (Some youngin's aswell) Would love to see the progress of both after a fight @ MW of course. (Can't help but wonder if a SMW showdown between Pavlik & Abraham will lose some luster)
Abraham walks around at about 185, and his problems making 160 are well known. Pavlik is 6 foot 2 1/2 inches, and llives on cabbage soup the last few days before weigh in.
Abraham is 4 and a half inches TALLER than Dwight Muhammed Qawi. Pavlik is bigger at age 27 than Hopkins was at that age. He is also naturally bigger than Miranda, Taylor, and Zuniga; 3 of his former victims that all campaign at 168. He walks around heavier than Carl Froch. You obviously have no clue what you are talking about.
Pavlik struggles at 68 against anyone, i dont think he beats froch or kessler. Bute would be a good fight but id still pick Kelly to lose. Abraham is the studier of the two and would fit comfortably at 68 imo. Him vs Froch would be a war!
lord this is gonna be a packed division when they get there (already is). i love the pav/kessler matchup and would love to see it. haha damn boo you havent left a lot out...i can't really disagree or elaborate. i can't wait for them to get up there i also can't see froch still being on his perch by the time kp and aa get to the point of fighting the top tier smw's.
I don't think they'll be as successful @ 168. Kessler, Bute & Froch are very tough fights for both of them.
Struggles against anyone? And you base that on what? Out of 13 fights above 160, he lost one. Froch is custom made to make Pavlik look good. he's slow, has poor defense, ya can't miss the guy with jabs, et, et. How would Froch win? By getting hit in the head with right hands reatedly? Or by stopping jabs with his face?
I think Bute beats both, but against Pavlik it's still a hard fight to pick. Kessler beats both. I believe that Pavlik can maybe knock out Andrade. Pavlik knocks out Froch.
Pavlik knock Andrade out:think He might score some kind of TKO, but a straight up knock out is highly unlikely.
Styles makes fights. Andrade, Froch, Lacy, Allan Green are either easy to hit or don't have the best beards. AA has the higher chance at knocking them out, Pavlik wears them ou for a late KO, depends if his power carries at 168. In my opinion as an aa fan, I definitely think Jermain Taylor beats aa at 160, no doubt, I said it from day one. After watching j taylor at 168 against Lacy and Froch, I have no doubt aa stops him late kind of how Froch did. AA has better defense then Froch, better power and is not a head hunter like Froch is. That is my reasoning for an AA win over Jermain Taylor. AA against Bute is a 50/50 fight. If Bute boxes aa, and seems to take aa's power succesfully, no doubt Bute wins a ud, if Bute comes in and starts to trade ala the 2nd half of the fight against andrade, aa KOs Bute late. Kessler is a different opponent, he was confused and hurt against calzaghe, who is not a power puncher, aa does not have the athletic ability that calzaghe has but has more power, in my opinion if aa does some good bodywork against kessler the first 4 or 5 rounds, he CAN hurt him the 2nd half of the fight, kessler has not really been in the ring with a power puncher for 12 rounds.
